S4 FC good starter to rotaries?

There’s a luxury dealer near me offering an 88 FC, looks super original, claiming single owner and engine refresh 20k miles ago. I need to confirm compression obviously but looks completely stock and very clean with original service manuals and even spare tire which I find surprising lol. I’ve been wanting a rotary for a long time now, they’re asking ~$18k I could probably get a bit lower but was wondering if an S4 NA 13B would be a good intro to the rotary scene? I don’t have much experience modifying cars outside of basic maintenance like fluids and brake jobs but am wanting to learn. I’ve been into rotaries since my teen days but now can afford one so I’m aware of the care and attentions these need, just have never had the opportunity of owning one till now and want to see if this a good option?

If I get this, given how clean it is I would keep it OEM+ and as a clean show/street car. I want to get back into the car scene after being out for so long, learn how to take care of these cars, maybe performance mods down the road if these engines can handle it if not just up keep and suspensions mods.

budget to build a KA24E Sil80

I’ve been in the market looking for a good S chasis to get back into the scene. I don’t have a ton of experience modifying cars, just do basic maintenance myself but want to get an S chasis to learn, don’t worry it won’t be my daily and I’m financially able to take on some work left from previous owners.

My total budget is $20k, my initial preference was a true sr20det but haven’t had too much luck finding good reasonably priced ones in the PNW so wanted to start weighing my options and seeing if I should build a KA instead. There’s a couple non turbos SR in my area but have seen a few posts saying they prefer KA over that.

I’ve seen a few options, after initial car price for a decent one and taking care of the basic maintenance before doing any performance modifications, it may leave me with about 5k-8k extra. My goal is a street car, maybe one day in the future I’ll drift it but as there’s not too many events near me the primary purpose would be a street car. I’d love to turbo it but wanted to see how realistic that is and if it’s smart for me to do it. As I said, I don’t have all the experience, I could try doing it myself but am considering going to a shop/garage to have people with more experience do the work while I learn.

is my budget reasonable here? Should I hold out to find an SR instead?

KA or SR platform to learn?

Im eyeing some S chasis, this will be a secondary car to learn more about modifying a car, I’ve done maintenance plenty of times but want to learn more and have heard good things about the SR platform. I don’t want to do anything crazy, just learn by experience about different modifications. The SR20DET is my ideal choice as its more “complete” in terms of already having a turbo , but i’ve seen a couple nice looking KA or even SR20DE engines out there. Which do you recommend I get to learn and play around with ? If don’t get a DET I would want to turbo it eventually and the money I save could definitely let me do it sooner rather than later but don’t know if that’s a beginner task to take on. Other than that I’d probably just start by doing maintenance and enjoying the car and slowly build confidence to do other mods as I see fit

How bad is this rust?

Im eyeing this 180sx to buy and live on the west coast so rust isn’t something i’m too familiar with unfortunately (?). The seller lives quite a ways from me but they’ve been very transparent with me. they sent me this picture of the trunk area under the carpet, would this alarm any of you? other than this the car looks great, only 67km

As time goes on it’s hard to gauge prices for this chasis, i’ve been looking for one for a bit and trying to find one that’s a good deal and making sure i’m not being an idiot and paying too much. I found one that’s converted to a sil80, don’t think it’s genuine but could be wrong. it’s listed for $20k, looks very clean and unabused, not much done to it performance wise, so stock sr20det. I think I can talk them down a couple grand especially since they’re fairly far. I originally wanted an S15 but for a type R my $20k-$25k budget doesn’t look like it’ll cut it for a good one at least, found an Autech in Canada that’s the closest i’m considering but stock de engine.
