General fighting game question - why no animation for blocking (before hit)

Title^ It just occurred to me that many fighting games do not show when a player is holding back. Why not? I wonder if any dev has ever commented on this design choice

I have absolutely no respect for Unika players (salty, but not joking, this is true beast-blaming)

Unika is auto-combo (auto-damage) the character. She's not a good character, and I do pretty well against her with my main, but when learning other characters the pure stupidity just gets rubbed in my face every time I miss an input or mistime an attempt to interrupt a blockstring.

At least the feeling of losing to truly garbage players is inspiring. Can't wait to match against them when I actually have some mastery of the character I'm learning. Gold 3 Unikas, I am going to shit on you in about 2-3 days.

The end.

Edit: for context, I main Chipp and I am learning Millia

Extremely deep and high-level analysis of Strive characters (salt post)

The following characters are made for small children:

  • Potemkin
  • Nago
  • Leo
  • Johnny
  • Sin

These characters are ideal for toddlers:

  • Slayer
  • Elphelt

And these characters are best suited to fresh, screaming newborns:

  • Jam
  • Unika

I came back to this game after a long time. I remember when Sol and Leo were considered the glue-eating gorillas of the game.

Oh, how I miss those days.

Also, to be clear, I am not saying these characters are good, though of course some of them are.

The way Double KO works is wack.

I am betting this has been brought up before, but I just beat some poor shitty Ky this way so I feel entitled to complain about it.

Round 1 - I lose

Round 2 - Double KO

Round 3 - I win

The set goes to me.

Ky slapped me until dead twice. I slapped Ky until dead twice. But that dumbass won his round first, so he loses.

What a fucking moron that guy is, amirite???

Is it possible to see how often someone has RQ? Also, can you block somebody if you forget to right after a match?

I played against a Gold 3/Plat 1 Jam with name A____ S____ (not giving whole name) and after beating me in the first game, I perfected them round 1 of the next and then they RQ in the most obvious way after I started beating them in round 2.

Ran into them later on another character and they refused to rematch after I won the first game.

Forgot to block their salty ass. What can I do? Also curious to see stats on their RQs.

To the gold 3 teabagging and taunting Leo

Thanks for all the BM against my day-1 unranked Zato. Glad I got to rematch you with a character I actually play. Now go be a ninja, ya 2-0ed bitch 😃

Jam's real problem is just that she is too tanky

Title.

I play Chipp, so I am very used to winning neutral a few times, looping 50/50s to rack up damage, and then noting that my opponent is still very much alive and kicking.

But every time I look at Jam's health during a match I am surprised. I guess its the 0.95 damage modifier and 2 guts? That's the same as Ky... For her damage output, it just feels too high.

Is it because her mix is bad? I still don't think she's a good character - it just feels off.

Am I blaming the wrong beasts?

Genuinely, what is the difference between Ephelt and Unika in terms of gameplan?

I've never seen Ephelt and Unika in the same room.

I find both matchups incredibly boring and nearly identical, but also I am bad at the game.
