TIL... Mojo Nixon passed away...

from a cardiac arrest on an Outlaw Country cruise ship, hours after his final live performance.

God bless you, Mojo Nixon. Thst is the only way that you could go. The best of all of us. I will always tell the story as it was two groupies and an 8 ball.

Hot Take: TNG would have never made it to season 2 if the current internet existed in 1987

I'm currently introducing a Trekkie friend to season 1 of SNW. He thinks it is absolutely amazing. His maIn point is how TOS had fun/silly episodes all the time. We are currently on The Elysian Kingdom and he is referencing Who Mourns for Adonais.

He was shocked when I told him how much flak SNW gets, and how online bitching and Paramount's mishandling of the IP has prompted a shortened S5 and shelving of any other shows.

He recounted how disappointed his family was when they watched TNG S1 together when it came out. He says he remembers how his trekkie parents felt so disappointed with it and they didn't end up watching any of the subsequent seasons at all. I'm 100% certain TNG would never be able to survive in today's online "that's not my trek" mentality. And we all would have been robbed of 6 more seasons, not to mention VOY & DS9.

I don’t really need a debate/discussion, I just came here to vent a little bit. Mostly b/c I keep reading posts taking digs at the s4 episodes as they've been released.

Survival has so many painful lessons to teach me.

But I was just reminded of one I haven't experienced in quite some time. I’ve been waiting so long for a legendary auto-stim armor piece for a leg or arm. I’ve been wanting to replace my chest piece, but it’s the only auto-stim I have.

I finally found one off a legendary gunner at Vault 95. Only to be killed minutes later (before I could sleep). Next attempt it didn't spawn and I cleared the vault.

Bittersweet survival. Hurts so good. Gotta love the pain!

Sisu is a Finnish word variously translated as stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness.

I’m playing a new survival run. I’m currently on level 18. I’ve never done a melee/vats before. It's a new style for me. I am also doing a new RP restriction. I am making it a Sisu run. I'm playing a grizzled, old veteran hell-bent on the single-minded focus of brutal vengeance for my family. The restrictions are simple enough... if Sisu would do it, it's allowed. If not, it’s forbidden.

-No side quests unless they help an innocent or there is a personal grievance.
-Avoid any conflict possible.
-Use every weapon/explosive/trap at my disposal.
-Minimize companions besides Dogmeat unless I’m helping someone innocent or they're needed to pursue vengeance. [Right now I’m traveling with Piper trying to find Nick]
-Only use weapons I find/mod myself. Buy only what I need.

So if anybody has any additional ideas for adding to that lore, I would love to hear suggestions.

Settlers just keep mucking up my life.

I've been playing this game forever. But I just recently discovered another annoying settler behavior. I keep a little blue cooler in my settlements and occasionally drop items in it to eventually have a companion do a bulk transfer (e.g. for a supply run).

TIL that apparently the settlers have been using it to randomly helping themselves to the high DMG weapons and ammo. After successfully defending Hangman's, I traded with someone to see they added an auto shotgun with 173 shells. just to check if it wasn’t a fluke the next person I traded with had a legendary harpoon gun and 17 harpoons.

Now that I know, I think I’m going to be putting these coolers in the middle of every settlement just to see what these people pick up.

Now I just gotta figure out how to get my companions to quit standing around drinking coffee and holding up supports. Except Cait. For some reason that girl is always digging in the dirt.

First Time with Ada. I'm her biggest fan!

I just started the automotron DLC for the 1st time. For a while she was so so slow. I kept losing her in downtown Boston. So of course, I gave her some pretty leg updates to make her more mobile.

I was DELIGHTED to find out I had unlocked her special unique bugginess! I absolutely adore how she is constantly moving around. 95% of the time she is either running full speed 20 ft away from away me or body slamming into me. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! It's like having a Jack Russell terrier traveling around the Commonwealth with me!

Frustrated with Nuka World Red Rocket...?

I just finished the DLC for the first time. After restoring the power I went to check out the RR settlement. In a game that frequently frustrates me, this is definitely a high point. What in the world is the purpose of having such an amazing layout for a settlement so late in the DLC? I would love to build on this. But it would be so pointless now. I play survival only, so I’m never coming back to this settlement ever again. Even if I turned on fast travel, I would still have to take a train and walk a half a mile.

Has anyone ever found any value in setting this place up?

Multiple level ups?

I have a habit of stocking up on my level-ups. Usually I'll wait until I have 4 or 5 then load up on whatever perks helps most during that particular run of my playthough? Am I alone in this?

Update on 1st Time Nuka World

So I started playing NW for the first time and made a post earlier about whether or not it was worth it. Thanks to you all who told me to stick with it. I’m definitely having a blast now. I'm chasing down space suits, fun exploration in areas outside the parks, and secret Cappy code chasing in between the main quests. So much fun. Cage is a decent comp too!

It’s definitely not perfect. I understand there’s a mod to make the over boss home an interconnected workshop style base. That would definitely be worth it. And I freaking hate those crickets, seriously OP no fun enemies. I think somebody built their hit boxes to avoid all shotgun projectiles. Double shot at point blank is constantly whiffing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Long time trek fan, never could get past the first season of DS9. I finally listened to the Internet and pushed through. And boy was the Internet spot on! Everything you all were saying about it was 100% true. From mid S2 it just kept getting better and better! I understand what you were saying about the joy of watching it for the first time. I felt like a member of a special family when the credits rolled on that last episode.

So now I’m doing a 2nd watch through some of my fave episodes. I have a question, or maybe more of an opinion, about Dukat. I know that the writers said they didn’t expect him to be as popular as he was. But it seems to me they didn’t really know or care where his character arc was headed. In the beginning, I got this really strong (long game) antihero vibe. Especially with the daughter thing. Then they leaned into the power hungry, must lead at all costs trope. And they waffled horribly on the dad redemption arc. Plus at all times, they kept doubling down on the Bajoran sexual predator thing. Obviously, he finished as the complete psycho madman.

The thing is, it never mattered to me what he was doing. No matter what he did on the screen, it was tremendous fun to watch. I would’ve watched him read the phone book. But I really had no idea where they were trying to take that character at any given time.

Just curious about something... Has anybody else ever really gotten into the number crunching of expeditions? Does it really matter to try to maximize ROI? I basically throw five ships at each one semi-randomly. Doesn’t really seem to matter what I do, expeditions are always successful and the freighters keep upgrading.
