Found a ASUS 5090 ROG Astral for $3600 open box from MicroCenter. Been wanting a 5090 for a while, but haven’t done it because of the insane prices driven by the AI market.
Flagship air cooled card for the same cost as a Gigabyte base seems cool on paper… but is it worth it?
I primarily game, and have a 5k2k main display with two 1440p OLED secondary monitors. For gaming alone it seems stupid, but I like the best of the best. Halp.
How did I not realize how much better it is to have the PC off the desk?? Made room for a “wrap around” triple monitor setup plus more desk space.
I didn’t want to put it on floor and turn it into a $3k+ cat hair vacuum, so I did some reorganizing of the guest room.
I can’t center it on the window, so I will be installing shelving to hold the PC/accessories to replace the dresser.
Cable management needs a little work, awaiting longer HDMI/DP cords to do that.
I went from lurking on this subreddit and r/pcbuilds with my PS5 and XBOX to having a fully built system that I’ll be ok with for a while! Did some custom work to the Playseat Instinct to mount a shifter and handbrake. I appreciate all of the inspiration and research that everyone unknowingly helped me out with.
PSA: the white on the Playseat is plastic shavings from said custom work.
