What if we had a metro running along El Camino Real?

If you live along the peninsula, a lot of day-to-day life is along El Camino Real. What if we had a metro line running underneath it? A metro line much like what NYC and Paris have would make it relatively easy to go from street level to the metro. Stations could be at every major intersection.

One end might be downtown San Jose, then the line goes up El Camino Real. Since Caltrain already follows El Camino more or less from Menlo Park northward, most of the value of this metro would be between Palo Alto University Ave (with a shared station with Caltrain) and SJ. Given that, maybe this line just needs to be built between PA and SJ. If it's PA to SJ then it would be just VTA and one county, and not have the complications of multiple transit authorities.

And I imagine if this were built, then it would change the landscape of El Camino, with high density (mid or high rise buildings). Less need for car travel would mean less need to build parking.

What do you all think? Does anyone know if this was considered?

EDIT:

A few things I want to call out after seeing some comments:

  1. Regarding the "but that's Caltrain" argument -- Why should we limit ourselves to one transit line (Caltrain) running up and down the peninsula? Manhattan has 4 subway lines running uptown <-> downtown. At some point if we want density (to solve the housing problem) we will need supporting transit. Also, Caltrain makes fewer stops and is better suited for covering longer distances (e.g. Sunnyvale to SF). I see this metro as a complement and supplement to Caltrain; at certain stops (e.g. University Ave in PA) you could switch to Caltrain and cover more distance faster.

  2. Buses -- We have buses running on ECR now. What is their level of use? Are they a viable alternative to driving? I am looking at a job in downtown SJ and it would take me an about an hour to get there from Sunnyvale on bus 22 or 522. It's 18 minutes by car if I self-drive. It's just not compelling right now for people to not use their cars for trips along ECR. Perhaps BRT would work well, but why hasn't this been implemented yet?

  3. Cost -- Yes, it will be expensive. It would have been better to build this 20 years ago, 10 years ago, etc. Not building it will come at the expense of quality of life.

Is there a truly good donut shop in Boston?

I'm visiting from the California Bay Area. This morning I went on a donut crawl. I started at Kane's donuts because that seemed the best based on reviews. I was quite disappointed. The donuts just didn't seem particularly fresh though the honey dipped was probably the freshest tasting. I visited at 9am so I would assume they are same day made. I also tried a maple and a blueberry cake donut. Just ok, not great. I would give these a 5/10. They are big but also a bit pricey at $3.50 each.

Next stop was Red Apple Cider donuts in Boston Public Market. They were making mini blueberry donuts so I had 2. These were great tasting! I would give them an 8/10 on taste. At $1.82 apiece for a mini it's expensive.

Last stop was Union Square donuts in the same Boston Public Market building. These looked amazing so I figured this would be the ultimate donut. But really wtf? The blueberry pancake donut was cold like it was kept in a fridge (?!?!). I asked the person working there if it was fresh and made today and she said yes. Hmm. The maple oreo donut was good also but again not great. On taste these were 6/10. Super expensive though at $4.50 apiece.

So where did I go wrong or are these the best donuts in Boston?

edit: regarding my ratings, it's a donut so difficult IMO to be less than a 5/10. I like donuts; they are fried dough and sugar so not much to go wrong. A chain grocery donut (eg Safeway) is a 5/10 on my scale.

No factory reset option for vehicle or infotainment settings?

I will be returning a leased 2024 Equinox EV and I don't have the option to factory reset if I go to Settings > Vehicle > Reset Options.

For those who deleted personal information from the infotainment system, how did you go about it?

Please help me understand my OSCAR data and implications

I started using CPAP two months ago. In the first week or so my AHI was <1. Since then it has varied, with most days in the 1.3 - 1.8 range but the occasional day <1.

The screenshots are the summary view and then two screenshots of last night's data (since I don't know how to compress the graphs so that I can fit them all in one screenshot, so I scrolled and took two screenshots to get all of last night's data)

What are the insights I should be gleaning from this? What adjustments should I make as a result?

What is the best price offered (including Black Friday) for USM Unlimited Premium Warp annual?

I'm considering switching to USM but have 2.5 months left on my current Mint 12-month plan. I see Warp Unlimited Premium is $299 ($24.90/mo) currently. Is it ever offered for less? IIRC, Light Speed premium unlimited was offered at $167 ($14/mo) last year.

Why is there no new inventory? (SF Bay Area)

I'm currently leasing a 2024 Equinox EV that I will have to return in one month. Buying out the lease doesn't make sense given the residual is much higher than buying a used one.

Local dealers had 60+ in inventory here in the SF Bay area when I last checked about a year ago. Now two local dealers have zero, and one dealer has one RS. What happened?

Best AirMini deal right now?

Someone in another thread a few weeks ago shared a link for Airsense 11 for $499. It was a link they got through a FB ad. Are there any similar targeted deals right now for the AirMini? Best I'm seeing is 25% off.

How many days for Astana?

I bought an open jaw ticket with arrival in Astana as part of a 2-week self-guided trip. I chose Astana as the entry point into Central Asia because I was fascinated with its odd architecture, and it seemed like a nice place to just "be" for a few days. However, now that I've been learning more about Astana, I'm questioning my choice. Astana doesn't seem all that interesting or even an easy place to just chill for a few days, with the large distances between places in the city.

Though I could change the arrival city for a fee, my inclination is to just keep Astana as my first destination in Central Asia and figure out the right number of days there. For those who have been there, what would you recommend? I could spend 1, 2, or 3 days in Astana, with 1 day being the arrival day (I arrive early in the morning so it would be a full day).

Any way to make ramp from 0 to 4 gradual?

New CPAP user here, using an Airsense 11. My required pressure is pretty low at 6, so what often affects me is the sudden ramp from 0 to 4. I have tried various ramp settings, but the machine always seems to go from 0 to 4 quickly and then ramp slowly from 4 to 6. Any way to make it ramp slowly from 0 to 4?

For those who leases ended or will soon end

My lease is ending in a few months. GM Financial offered me a complimentary pre-return vehicle inspection which would allow me to address any excess wear before I return the car. I don't think I have any excess wear, but I could see how this could give me peace of mind. On the other hand, I'm wondering if these pre-inspections are a way for GM Financial to cite wear so they can charge more at vehicle return.

Anyone have experience they can share, one way or another regarding how they handled their lease return?

I'm considering a trip to Uzbekistan this June with a routing of Tashkent -> Khiva -> Bukhara -> Samarkand -> Tashkent

I understand that June can be quite hot in Uzbekistan, and the travel weather sites show that Khiva and Bukhara can reach 100 F (38 C). What I'm not finding is weather information for the desert fortress (such as Ayaz Qala) that we would visit as a daytrip from Khiva. I would expect these might be even hotter than Khiva, but how much so? I'm hoping there's someone on this forum who has visited the desert fortresses in June or other summer month and can comment.
