Some behind-the-scenes pics of Field Trip 🍄🟫
a jar of yellow goo! I think that’s David’s arm in the blue sweater on the right so maybe Gillian’s laughing because he just got the slime poured on him

I rewatched Fire because I felt like torturing myself. Horrible episode (worse than Space in my opinion), and yet there was a small gem amidst all the awfulness…
When Mulder’s recuperating in the hotel room, Scully comes to see him and he takes off his robe and walks around shirtless in front of her just like he would with any close friend. He goes into the bathroom and comes back out with a robe on, untied.
The moment Phoebe enters the room, he closes his robe and covers himself. Even though he had a sexual relationship with her she clearly makes him uncomfortable, whereas with Scully he has total trust and comfort. Just thought it was a nice subtle moment.
I’m sorry if you love these episodes but this is some of the most eye-rollingly melodramatic, ponderous, self-indulgent nonsense the show has done thus far.
I feel like I’m watching a damn soap-opera with how melodramatic everything is.
The writing throughout all of Biogenesis, Sixth Extinction, and now this has been terrible in my opinion. Carter is clearly trying soooo hard to be all deep and philosophical and meta about everything - more than he ever has been before - making it all feel so cinematic and grand but not at all in a good way because XFiles never needed that!! Even when he leaned way into his purple prose in the narration voiceovers such as in Little Green Men or Memento Mori it really worked for me. This, whatever this is, does not work for me.
Duchovny basically just laid in a bed the entire season 7 opener doing nothing. He probably had a grand time getting to relax all day seeing as he wanted to leave at this point. Mulder tied to a bed with new wacky psychic powers is certainly not the direction I would have taken things.
For him to be so fucking passive during this after he’s spent years actively chasing truth feels very very wrong to me. The show continues to take the mythology in a direction I hate, where it directly centers Mulder and Scully and makes everything tied so deeply personal to them, instead of having them be intelligent capable agents investigating and hunting the truth. Seeking answers and seeking justice. No, instead we get Scully spending days working on the script rubbings only to leave it all that work behind and go stand over Mulder’s bed crying. Oh my goddddd.
It feels like the writers are kissing Duchovny’s ass making Mulder this special boy with special brain powers now. It’s pissing me off. The mythology has been Mulder-centric enough, this is too much.
CSM telling Mulder “you’ve suffered enough,” (yeah sorry but Scully’s actually suffered way more at this point), referencing Jesus, raising his hands and telling Mulder to rise, then the cloyingly emotional music as he says “I am your father” MAKE IT STOP 😭. I’m sick of the Smoking Man at this point. The captivating intrigue and mysterious danger the character once had is unfortunately shattered for me, and it has been for a while.
It’s hard to avoid remembering how much I loved the early mythology episodes. Those felt like you were watching real people going through real, tangible events, trying to solve mysteries and hunt truth, trying to protect each other and do the right thing. They felt so grounded and realistic no matter what paranormal or alien situation was occurring.
All I know about the rest of this episode is that it will have some fantasy dream of Mulder’s involving Diana and a baby… oh goodie can’t wait to see that 😃
It genuinely pains me to be so negative about a show that I adore and that has come to mean so much to me but I felt like I had to get these honest thoughts out for some kind of catharsis lol.
A while ago I read a wonderful quote on Tumblr, but I don’t remember if it originated on Tumblr or if someone had just reposted it there. It wasn’t from anyone in the show, it was just from a viewer.
Basically the person was describing what they considered the three main facets of the Mulder/Scully bond and all I remember is that one of them was “fascination” with each other.
I’m pretty sure this quote was popular and did rounds across various social media so perhaps someone here knows what I’m talking about. I’d love to read it again.
Thanks!
I can go to the page where my Scheduled Posts are located, but there is no option to open them or edit them. I’ve tried mobile and desktop.
