halfway through 1st playthrough and the game is amazing.
Unfortunately this series may not have a future, but I believe that's just due to the gaming climate. The average gamer wants to relax and get instant gratification whether that is a deathmatching game, horde survival game etc. or something along those lines. Me having a bad attention span I'll admit it took a while for me to get used to this game. You see evidence of this in many titles (for example fallout 1 requiring work and exploration to what is now "follow the shiny quest marker")
The crime scenes in the beginning could feel claustrophobic but as soon as I played the stocking strangler mission, that mission really rewards inquisitive minds who wander off to explore and that mission felt like a big open world creating immersion. Just then with all of the war flashbacks adding mystery I was hooked.
I think the desire for immediate accomplishment made it hard for this game to be recognized as the creative piece it really is. Even with it's age the facial motion scan while dated was very well done, and gave random NPC's depth.
I cheesed the first 1/4 of the game with guides and as soon as I abandoned the guides, missed evidence or made mistakes the game became incredibly rewarding.
Hopefully there will be a future effort to build upon the series.
