How do you deal with GMAT burnout and mental fatigue during the final stretch?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been preparing for the GMAT for a while now, and I’m starting to struggle with motivation and mental fatigue.
Initially, I was extremely driven. I cleared CFA Level I and remember being able to study for 3–4 hours consistently for months. But GMAT prep has been a different experience. I find the repetitive nature of solving question after question quite draining, and lately, I’m struggling to sit for even an hour.

My Verbal and DI are relatively decent, but Quant is my weak area. The gap between where I am and my target score feels significant, and I think that’s starting to affect my motivation. I had initially planned to take the exam on October 20, but I’m considering pushing it to November because I’m not fully prepared.

I’m also working full-time, and life outside studying has been so good lately that GMAT isn’t as enticing unfortunately, even though my long-term goal of getting into a top MBA program abroad remains important to me.

My biggest concern is endurance. The GMAT is roughly 2.5 hours long, and if I’m struggling to focus for even an hour during practice, how am I supposed to perform consistently on test day? I don’t want to keep doing short study sessions and discover that I can’t sustain concentration during the actual exam.

For those who’ve experienced something similar:
- How did you overcome GMAT burnout without losing sight of your target score?
- How did you build the mental endurance to sustain concentration for the full exam?

I’d particularly appreciate advice from people who went through this during the final stretch of preparation and still managed to achieve their target scores.
Thanks!

Started at 405,now at 605, aiming for a 705

Hi everyone,

Need some advice and feedback. So I started my prep early this June and have been studying fairly regularly with maybe a few days off every now and then.

My very first cold mock was a 405 (V72,Q73,D65)

After a month and a half of VA prep and about half a month of QA I decided to take my next mock which was this week and I scored a 605 (V85,Q77,D78)

I’m really slow with quants so a lot of the questions I saw in the mock were a little tougher than the practice of questions, but DI as I have never touched it before felt super brutal.

I’m looking for advice into how can I improve my scores, is my progress speed okay? I had initially planned an early September attempt but given my pace in quants I’m guessing only October is doable.

What are some things that I could learn now that would save me some time in my prep?
For example I just learned the plugging in the middle option in some questions is a way to figure out an estimate.

Money follows ma brotha

Hi everyone, I’m over the moon! I got not one job offer…but 2!
I come from a T2-3 UG college and throughout my college life I was told that I aim too unrealistic and too high, was kind of laughed at each time I told my teachers my ambition.
They would always respond with just take the first job you get in your hand, and I can see where they were coming from.
I started college when I was 21 as I was a professional musician before that, the world of finance was super daunting- numbers were scary but I told myself that it had to be done.
Today I have 2 offers that are almost 3x my college median, and 2x the highest offer on campus this year.

I was lucky somehow to get 2 roles:

  1. A front analyst role at a T2 VC
  2. An AI in finance role servicing specifically PEs and MBBs (applied through company website btw)

You might call me stupid but I picked the 2nd one,
It’s kind of where the world is headed but most importantly I get a team of my own as a fresher along with direct collaboration with European offices- all of this because I am heavily invested in AI tools and vibe coding (I suck at real coding)

The only thing I want to tell everyone is keep building, keep tinkering around, find yourself a great mentor, be patient, hope that luck is on your side.

Just wanted to thank this community it’s helped me learn a lot

Needed advice on roles

For context I am an ex Music composer and producer (3YOE in films, web-series and broadway musicals), I recently went back to academics to study business and finance from a T2 college, cleared my CFA L1 and now onto L2.
I have experience as a research intern at a T1 B-school as well as an interning with a T1.5 VC in the investments team.

Currently have a few job options that I could potentially convert:

  1. Full time role at my VC - investment team
  2. A Dutch based Private Equity market intelligence company - Analyst in AI and automation
  3. A bulge bracket bank (hedge fund service role)
  4. Another bulge bracket bank (Analyst ops)

Was wondering which one of these would most benefit converting roles post MBA and also help with applications, I was told that experience in a Fortune 500 company helps greatly with applications and future roles.

Help…Stuck

I’m super low scoring in boldface and Inference type questions.
Been doing VA for a month now and almost down with everything else, have been scoring relatively decent in the OG question bank at around 85-90% on HARD questions.

The only thing I’m not able to wrap my head around is the Boldface and Inference type questions.

Honestly it’s getting frustrating and not able to move on to quants because of it.

I always manage to come down to the final two options and boom!..I end up picking the wrong one

Any advice?

Edit: I figured that’s it’s the language of options that throws me off as well as finding the conclusions of the sentence

How vital is a high GMAT SCORE?

Hi everyone a bit of a stupid question… but how important is it really to score high in your GMAT?
And I mean like a 685-695+ , like is the delta massive post a certain score or does it start to get marginal?

I’ve read that most schools give your score a 25% weight.

Thanks for taking time out to read a dumb question.

Thoughts on MiM vs MBA?

Debating whether this new concept of MiM is actually as useful as everyone makes it sound to be or does the traditional MBA post 3-4 Years of work experience still trump an MiM in the long term ?

Unconventional Profile

Hi everyone,

I’m a 24y/o that’s looking to study in the Top10-20 MiM/ Mfin programs across Europe,USA and singapore.

I have a bit of an unconventional background….
I pursued music full time and joined Bollywood right after high school. Worked for around 5 years and had to drop it as I wasn’t able to make enough to make ends meet and had to get a surgery done alongside it.

Went back to the drawing board and pretty much jumped into any college business program that I could find and joined in less than a week.

3 years later, 2 finance internships (one with an IIM and one with a big VC in India), and a CFA L1 later I have figured that finance is where my interest lies, and I would like to further pursue a masters in that field.

If things go well I plan to join a large AMC in their front office for the next year or so, and plan on going to study within the next 2 years

The questions I have:

  1. Am I too old for an MiM/MFin program given that the average age of a candidate is generally 21-22. Are these courses something that a positive outlook in the market?

  2. Is an MBA something I can even consider given that I don’t have the traditional sense of work experience that they require

  3. Is my profile something that the top programs would even consider given that it is out of the ordinary?

  4. Any other advice is appreciated !

Thank you!

Absolutely disgusted

Gave my first mock before starting my prep on E-GMAT, and safe to say I am absolutely gutted and disgusted at my score.

Scored an insanely high 405.
And a 485 on MBA.com

Although I am yet to start my prep I honestly thought I would score higher than a 405!!

Kind of here to see how I can work my way up any suggestions are appreciated, I plan to take my GMAT in November.

V72, Q73, D65
(oh and btw I scored a 92%ile on my 2025 CAT DILR)

Honestly it really sucked but I’m here to learn and figure it out.

I recently bought a funded account, still in the eval phase. I came across a few posts where people were getting denied payouts and that’s now making me skeptical of them , I bought the 10k - 1 step account for $37 and I’m looking for any reviews on them or any key points that I should look out for shin trading with them to avoid this from happening

Thanks for any responses

Beginner trader here and looking learn and improve.

Recently came across a YouTube channel by the name of FxAlexg and ToriTrades thought I’d ask people who have been in the game for a while if they would recommend learning from them or if any other sources helped you get better .

Thanks for helping a fellow trader out :)

Looking for opinions on what has worked better for you in the past.

And what should beginners use, I’m on my first funded account and debating which type of strategy to use and how does risk management differ in each strategy.

Hello,

I just bought my first funded account and I’m looking to get into this journey of trading.

I already scalp trade my country’s Option markets and I do make a little bit of profit there, now I’ve taken the leap into the world of global markets using funded accounts

Was just hoping to get any advice on how I should approach things differently and if there is something that you wish you knew early on when you started.

:)
