Trains Stopping on the Tracks in the Center of Town (rant)

I was pretty pissed this morning, as I have been many mornings - trying to get to work, a doctors appointment, a meeting...

Is there any worse feeling than this?: You pull up and realize theres a train. "Ugh, no big deal, I'll wait it out. It would take way longer to go around. Wait... Is the train... SLOWING DOWN?! OMG it's coming to a stop. It's stopped"

I have worked and lived in the Houston Wedgewood / Berry Hill / Woodbine area for 25 years. Only now in the the last five years is it a regular occurence for trains to be fully stopped on the tracks in high traffic areas, for literal HOURS at some points. Is this at 4 in the morning? 9 at night? No. It's at 8:30, noon, 4pm. It is absolutely infuriating.

My theory is that we are running longer and longer trains with more cargo, on infrastructure from the late 1800's. But SURELY it cannot be okay that this is the new norm.

Is anyone doing anything about this? Can we pass laws that this is not okay?

This mornings delay caused a chain reaction that added a full hour to my morning. It's just nuts. Who's with me on this?

Macbook Video Lagging After Sequoia OS upgrade

As stated in the title. I updated to Sequoia 15.7.7 a few weeks ago, and ever since then I've been have a ton of video lagging. Internet connection is strong - I'm operating in the same places as before (work and home), and there's a significant difference. I'm closing tons of stuff (which i did not have to do before) and I've cleared the cache. I've attached an image of my operating system and my activity monitor. Getting annoying - anyone have some insight on the issue? Oh also, since the upgrade my battery is heating up a bit more than usual and drains faster. I suppose that could be a potential culprit but the issues seemed to coincide exactly when I upgraded.

Gi Joe Collection Display Now

This post is an update to my post last week here

I only have so much room for display, so I decided to display the main stuff from the years that I actually placed with Joes. This also shows many of the small vehicles that I started collecting once I finished collecting figures, accessories, and file cards. I also have a few great custom makers and some of the new figures from companies that are creating figures as a tribute to the ARAH era of Joes.

I hope you enjoy!

Me with entire GI Joe ARAH figure line 1982-1994

While i had GI Joe figures as early as 1983 (born in 1981), I eventually switched from play to collecting. From 1997, until 2023 or so, I set about collecting all of the ARAH line figures, with all file cards, and all accessories. I did so largely from the help of online group, buying and selling lots on Ebay, and perusing vintage stores wherever I went.

My parameters for collecting were to complete all the figures: every accessory and file card that would have originally come with the figure. I was never too into vehicles - so I was really just focused on completing the figure line. I also decided that my version of being a "completist" would mean that I would approach "completion" from the perspective of a child. For example: if I was a kid and I had sent away for Starduster, I wouldn't care about getting a slightly different version (if I had even known that there was a difference) - I would think "I already have that figure". The same thing for the original versions of Steel Brigade. However, if I was a kid and I saw the Gold Head Version, I would think "that's a different figure - I need him!". So I didn't get too into variations of figures to complete my collection - I wanted one complete version of every distinct figure from the perspective of my child self. I believe that resulted in a total tally of about 523 figures.

I have since began collecting some of the smaller scale vehicles as well, and have been working on displaying them. I'll post that in the future.
