Bi-yearly updates ftw

Just seen that Embark are shifting from monthly to bi-yearly updates that will feature more major changes to the game and personally, I love that. I think that is exactly what a game like Arc Raiders needs to survive long term. Monthly updates are so work intensive for the team, will get criticised no matter what, and won't meaningfully improve the game or make it feel fresh again.

However, one big update every 6 months that features a completely new set of maps, or completely new set of arc or a completely new way of playing would be immense and WOULD make the game feel fresh again and bring a lot of the original Arc lovers back.

Embark want Arc Raiders to survive 10+ years, and monthly updates is simply not conducive to that. Embark know that the player base is going to rise and fall over time in cycles with updates designed to bring those rises, and monthly updates are not significant enough to bring or sustain those rises.

I myself played Arc LOADS when it came out and played for a good 3-4 months straight but got a bit burnt out and tired of the same gameplay cycle. I recently came back for the rising tides update but only played for one day. The map wasn't bad, the changes weren't bad, but it just didn't change what I was burnt out from or tired of.

Now, if they once every 6 months reset EVERYONE to square 1, from skill tree to stash, updated the skill tree, added an entirely new arsenal of weapons and removed the old ones, a completely new set of maps to explore and fight in, I would be HOOKED again for another 3-4 months for sure. It would feel like playing the game for the first time again without changing the identity of the game.

"B-b-b-b-but its a live service game, 6 months per update is the death of a live service game"

"its a LIVE SERVICE game btw, embark are killing it."

"umm arc raiders is actually a live service game, this is not what live service support is"

it's like some of you just learnt what a live service game was and can't stop using the term lol. You know what other live service games there are? Fortnite. GTA V. Minecraft. Those games weren't doing monthly updates to keep the whining crying baby reddit users happy. They stuck to longer update cycles with more meaningful change to keep the game truly fresh as opposed to painting the same rotting fence a difference colour every month.

You complain about everything, for once, have some faith and see what they can do in 6 months. I for one am very excited to see what they can do, and would personally love a full reset of all accounts, a new set of maps, and a new set of guns. I would grind Arc all over again if that were the case and would do it every 6 months on repeat if thats the plan.

The expedition is cool and all, and great for the streamers and true grinders who want every extra skill point they can get, but reset EVERYONE regardless. People will hoard less. People will pick the game back up again. People will be enthralled with the prospect of being back at the start line with everyone else again.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. I'm sure Embark will cook with enough time. Just stop complaining, go play something else if you are so fed up and can't go a week without new content and dopamine.

I played from S0 to mid season when DD was added. I used to love playing the game but ranked was genuinely just terrible for my mental health lol so I decided to quit. The matchmaking was out to get you, the community was unbelievably toxic, and you were pretty much at the mercy of how good your dps was in the high ranks (tank main).

Just curious how the game is now? I’ve seen some of the characters who have been added on insta and a couple videos but don’t know much about any of the characters or the state of the game.

Are the new characters good? Is the game balanced better or no? I’m always kind of tempted to come back and grind it all over again, playing a s a 6 stack was some of the most fun, but I think they got rid of that didn’t they :(

Anyways, should I come back?

Absolutely hilarious that Embark try to give Medium more love with a new spec and new weapon just for Medium to get dropped from the meta completely lol.

HLL is so strong and will be until H+ infuser gets a big nerf (which it needs). Being able to restore an entire heavies heath in less than 2 seconds is never going to be replaced.

Funny part about HLL being meta is the Heavy is purely just a distraction to absorb damage while the lights pick the enemies off.

I played a few Ruby lobbies today and let me tell you, it was glitch after glitch after glitch after glitch. Every engagement, glitched, beamed in the side of my head, they dash away. I heal up, re-engage from a different angle, glitched, beamed, glitched again, beamed again, dead.

When I say this was every life of the 2 rounds we made it, I am not joking. Every. Single. Life. Glitched on repeat by HLL teams with 4 glitch nades just cycling through them.

Idk why Embark gave light 2 charges again. It’s like they hate creativity. They saw double Heavy becoming meta and said absolutely not let’s give light two of the gadget that counters literally everything.

Couldn’t have buffed some other options to counter Heavy, couldn’t have been creative with your balancing, nope. Let’s give light their OP crutch of glitch nades to counter a mesh, dome, healing ball, and all ability to use any more in one single nade - and let’s give them 2 of them.

It’s so boring to play when you do well, and incredibly frustrating to play when you lose.

Anyway, I know this is reddit and this will be met with skill issue as usual but nerf H+ infuser, nerf glitch, and the meta will be immediately more fun, because at the moment, it’s just lights running the show.

P.s. Ever felt vulnerable? You don’t even know what vulnerable means until you have been glitched and then winched :)

Love, and I mean LOVE getting grabbed through walls, through shields, through fucking space and time by this dumb spec.

Fix it Embark. Why would anyone ever use any other heavy spec when winch is this broken and all the others suck so bad.

Must’ve missed the winch buff that allows it to grab through shields??

Winch is the most insane spec in the game and has been for far too long.

The hit reg on it is so fucked I am in awe of how they even programmed it to be this bad. You get grabbed by it through walls, around corners and now.. through fucking dome shields.

Nerffffff it Embark ffs.
