Finished Crossover yesterday

Finished Crossover yesterday and its a decent read, not as good as others I've read like Q-Squared or Spock's World but its good. I feel like Michael Jan Friedman's writing style is a tad boring though. The romulan stuff in this book is pretty dull, sometimes I forgot who a character is and what their motivation is. I also feel like the general premise of this book is so promising and so cool it could've been much better than it actually was. Alas, its not bad, its actually quite good. I've started the DS9 Novel The Siege (the first original ds9 novel, I've only read Peter David's introduction and about 8 pages but I think I'm going to love this one)

Which book did you read that you felt was overrated?

Books you read going in with a lot of encouragement and positive reviews only to be somewhat disapointed with the actual product.

Just finished Doctor's Orders

Just finished Doctor's Orders. Gee, its rare for me to finish a book so fast (9 days, I know that isn't fast for some but it sure is for me) especialy when i haven't been on the road or had any significant time off where i can read more often. Essentially, this book revolves around a planet nicknamed Flyspeck and its actually quite a unique planet; there's actually 3 different species innate to the planet. Kirk goes missing down on the planet and right before that he left Dr. McCoy in command. Klingons show up and Bones has to navigate finding Kirk, proceeding with the linguistic work needed with the 3 different species and klingons followed by an extremely well-written space battle. Its good stuff, Diane Duane is a great trek author and I look forward to reading her other stuff (Rihannsu series, which is kind of like Spock's world for Romulans and The Wounded Sky). Solid stuff all around. Next up is crossover which the premise just fascinates me I can't wait to read it. By the way yes my copy was the titan books version hence why the image displayed is that version

Best TNG books post 2002 that aren't post nemesis?

I know the majority of books post the release of nemesis are set after the film but are there any that stand out as outliers which are great?

The (very) small collection so far

Obviously the collection will grow and grow but I don't buy many books beforehand unless I plan to read it very soon. So far I've read ashes of eden (alright), sarek (terrifix), q-squared (marvellous) and most recently spock's world (terrific). About 100 and 1/3 through doctor's orders, so far solid. Then I'll read crossover and the siege.

Just Finished Spock's World

Just finished Spock's World. This book has some excellent, fascinating insights into the history of vulcan but more on that later. The book is split into 2 sections there's the enterprise's mission, where there's a massive debate going on on vulcan about whether or not they should secede from the federation: its great. Then the other section of the novel is about vulcan; just vulcan as a whole its history eg the original of cthia, surak's beginnings, a young t'pau and sarek etc, its truly fascinating. The books one of the most famous trek books and rightfully so, its a very pleasing read. I'll admit initially the first 50 pages or so were some what hard to get into but once i got into it i was fully immersed: it got to the point where i couldn't put the book down unless i had to, lol.

Any Books That Are Sequels/Follow Ups To Star Trek: The Next Generation - S7:E20 - Journey's End (1994)

Not books that take place in the picard line of books (i'm aware of to defy fate) but others that follow up on Wesley's life as a traveler or involve him in the plot

2 New Pick Ups

Recently picked up crossover and the siege. Crossover I've heard mixed things about but couldn't repress the desire for picking this one just because i find the plot so interesting. Also picked the siege up because peter david is great and I'm starting DS9 for the first time soon so when I get onto that one i can read it with minimal knowledge around season 1 as its the first one and peter david didn't know much about it when he wrote it too he was just given some info about the show

Question about the last roundup

Does this one have a similar vibe to ashes of eden in terms of the theme of feeling of no use in society? I found that theme in the former extremely cliche and somewhat boring.

A Trek Book Youtuber Appreciation Post

Hi all. This is probably one of the more randomer posts but I've been watching trek book reviews by this fella on youtube, jonathan koan (along with some star wars EU videos). His videos are excellent, he doesn't hold back with his opinions. https://www.youtube.com/@jonathankoan

Spock's World Or Doctor's Orders After Q-Squared

Hi All. Yesterday I finished Q-Squared, I previously read The Ashes Of Eden And Sarek. Now, I've already got spock's world and doctor's orders on the way, but I was wondering which should I read first? I mean, I found Q-Squared very serious and I don't want to delve into another high stakes, action-packed book straight away hence why I ordered doctor's orders. Is Spock's World similar to Q-Squared or is it less high stakes? If so, I'll read that one first. On a side note, this is my plan for future immediate reads (i'm on season 6 of tng, going to watch the tng films immediately after all good things... i plan to read crossover etc after the tng films) Finish Q-Squared → Spock’s World → Doctor's Orders → Crossover → Vendetta → The Lost Years → Dark Mirror → Probe → Q-in-law → Imazdi → Federation → Vulcan's Glory → Final Reflection → Metamorphisis → Engines Of Destiny → First Frontier → Yesterday Saga → Rest Of The Shatnerverse

Finished Q-Squared

Well, I was out and about today and read the last 250ish pages of Q-squared. Gotta say, this books plot is very complex and intelligently written, the book deals with parallel universes and it handles it perfectly. Peter David truly crafted this story amazingly and in the end it leads to a sort of battleworld esque climax, a great read

What's your favourite trek tos/tng book AOT?

I'm considering what to read after Q-Squared I have a lot of ideas but more would be great to have by considering your favourite novels. I only ask for tos and tng because i've currently only watched tos, tas, the 6 films and i just finished tapestry in tng. I'm sure this question gets asked a lot but answers would sincerely be appreciated along with maybe a brief description of the novel if thats not to much to ask for, if not, all good!

Where to find trek books in the UK

I know I could go down the route of ebay etc as I have with all the novels I've previously purchased but I would really love to find some in person, haven't had any luck in charity shops.
