At what point do they begin to tie into the post nemesis interconnected universe? I've been reading the post nemesis reading list on startreklitverse.com and I've noticed quite a few of the DS9 relaunch novels aren't there, not sure about Voyager. I'm going to hazard a guess that its because a few of the relaunch novels were written before death in winter, but am I wrong?
I'll start with both The Siege and Sarek
Read the last 110 pages of this one tonight.. and its another brilliant trek read from Peter David! So far I've only read Q-Squared (but its one of my favourite trek novels thus far) and I own Vendetta from his work. The violence and gore is bloody brutal and brilliant here, the plot is fascinating and the characterisations are pretty good for the first DS9 Original novel. Its a great novel made even more impressive by the fact Peter David didn't have much material to base his work off of. Great stuff.
So, I've been watching Deep Space Nine for the very first time recently and I have 2 episodes left of season 2. I've picked up #2 The Siege and its excellent so far as usual from Peter David. Also picked up #3 Bloodletter by K.W. Jetter. Now, instead of getting through ALL the early numbered novels since I'm reading other trek lit too I'm looking for a few recommendations for where I am right now and the near future. I've seen all of TOS, TAS, TOS Films, TNG and TNG Films if it matters.
He's going into year 11 and has requested a 5 minute early pass because hes been struggling getting around in crowds and often limps. Back in year 8, we went through the whole diagnosis thing but we just kept being referred to the gp by the school and then vice versa. He spoke to someone about it in school the other day and they mentioned having to speak to the examiner about it (I assume he means extra time in his exams) and he phoned the nurse and they said he had to bring in some medical confirmation in September. Its the summer holidays now, what should I do? The GP won't do anything and all hes asking for is a 5 minute early pass. The nurse did phone me that day but I was sleeping. I tried to phone her back the next day (last day of school), no response. Suggestions?
You better hurry up with the questions before my next assignment on a landing party
How are these? I plan to get along with the Shatnerverse at some point, I've already read The Ashes Of Eden, but these never get mentioned much. The "Odyssey" and "Totality" series get mentioned a lot but not so much this one. Also, thoughts on the other Shatner - Reeves-Stevens collaboration Collision Course? Excelsior: Forged in fire is another one I'm pretty curious about. Apparently it has references to the Shatnerverse and I'm always happy for a Captain Sulu story
Finished Crossover yesterday and its a decent read, not as good as others I've read like Q-Squared or Spock's World but its good. I feel like Michael Jan Friedman's writing style is a tad boring though. The romulan stuff in this book is pretty dull, sometimes I forgot who a character is and what their motivation is. I also feel like the general premise of this book is so promising and so cool it could've been much better than it actually was. Alas, its not bad, its actually quite good. I've started the DS9 Novel The Siege (the first original ds9 novel, I've only read Peter David's introduction and about 8 pages but I think I'm going to love this one)
Books you read going in with a lot of encouragement and positive reviews only to be somewhat disapointed with the actual product.
Just finished Doctor's Orders. Gee, its rare for me to finish a book so fast (9 days, I know that isn't fast for some but it sure is for me) especialy when i haven't been on the road or had any significant time off where i can read more often. Essentially, this book revolves around a planet nicknamed Flyspeck and its actually quite a unique planet; there's actually 3 different species innate to the planet. Kirk goes missing down on the planet and right before that he left Dr. McCoy in command. Klingons show up and Bones has to navigate finding Kirk, proceeding with the linguistic work needed with the 3 different species and klingons followed by an extremely well-written space battle. Its good stuff, Diane Duane is a great trek author and I look forward to reading her other stuff (Rihannsu series, which is kind of like Spock's world for Romulans and The Wounded Sky). Solid stuff all around. Next up is crossover which the premise just fascinates me I can't wait to read it. By the way yes my copy was the titan books version hence why the image displayed is that version
In your opinion, whats the most underrated Peter David Trek Book? So excluding some of the obvious ones, q-squared, q in law, imazdi, new frontier etc whats your most underrated novel of his?
I know the majority of books post the release of nemesis are set after the film but are there any that stand out as outliers which are great?
Obviously the collection will grow and grow but I don't buy many books beforehand unless I plan to read it very soon. So far I've read ashes of eden (alright), sarek (terrifix), q-squared (marvellous) and most recently spock's world (terrific). About 100 and 1/3 through doctor's orders, so far solid. Then I'll read crossover and the siege.
Just finished Spock's World. This book has some excellent, fascinating insights into the history of vulcan but more on that later. The book is split into 2 sections there's the enterprise's mission, where there's a massive debate going on on vulcan about whether or not they should secede from the federation: its great. Then the other section of the novel is about vulcan; just vulcan as a whole its history eg the original of cthia, surak's beginnings, a young t'pau and sarek etc, its truly fascinating. The books one of the most famous trek books and rightfully so, its a very pleasing read. I'll admit initially the first 50 pages or so were some what hard to get into but once i got into it i was fully immersed: it got to the point where i couldn't put the book down unless i had to, lol.
Not books that take place in the picard line of books (i'm aware of to defy fate) but others that follow up on Wesley's life as a traveler or involve him in the plot
Recently picked up crossover and the siege. Crossover I've heard mixed things about but couldn't repress the desire for picking this one just because i find the plot so interesting. Also picked the siege up because peter david is great and I'm starting DS9 for the first time soon so when I get onto that one i can read it with minimal knowledge around season 1 as its the first one and peter david didn't know much about it when he wrote it too he was just given some info about the show
Does this one have a similar vibe to ashes of eden in terms of the theme of feeling of no use in society? I found that theme in the former extremely cliche and somewhat boring.
