[PC][2000s?] Dark gothic 2D castle platformer with armored knight, very similar to Knight 'n' Grail
Platform(s): PC
Genre: 2D side-scrolling platformer/action game
Estimated year of release: No idea honestly, but I played it around 2009–2012. Could have been older, freeware, or emulated.
Graphics/art style:
Very dark gothic/castle atmosphere. Mostly indoors inside a castle/building. Some rooms had windows/openings with moonlight coming through. Retro pixel-art style similar to NES/C64 games, very similar visually and atmospherically to Knight 'n' Grail. Not colorful or cartoony. No sunlight/outdoor areas that I remember.
Notable characters:
You played as a fully armored dark knight. I don’t remember seeing his face or hair at all. I remember gargoyle-like enemies/monsters.
Notable gameplay mechanics:
Room-to-room progression with platforms you could jump on. Very little or no story/NPC interaction from what I remember. The game was punishing — if you lost all health/lives/hearts, I think you restarted from the beginning.
Other details:
The game felt VERY similar to Knight 'n' Grail and old Castlevania games, but it is NOT:
- Castlevania
- Ghosts 'n Goblins / Ghouls 'n Ghosts
- Knight 'n' Grail
- Maze of Galious
- Vampire: Master of Darkness
- Dark Castle
- Rastan
- Unepic
- Castle in the Darkness
- Odallus
- Volgarr the Viking
- Lecarde Chronicles
- Eternal Daughter
I specifically remember dark castle interiors and platform jumping.
