Why I deleted ChatGPT: Tired of "AI paternalism" and toxic positivity.

I decided to delete ChatGPT and wipe its memory of me after months of frustration. I’m 15, and I realized that instead of being a tool, the AI was trying to be a "moral guardian" and a fake therapist.

The "Hair Gaslighting"

I have 3B/3C curly hair. I’ve been struggling with my "day after" (keeping definition the next day) for a long time. I followed a strict hair routine: satin bonnets, sulfate-free products, and deep conditioning. When I vented to ChatGPT about my frustration, it started gaslighting me. It claimed it was "biologically impossible" for my hair not to have a good day after. It made false promises that if I grew it longer, the weight would magically fix everything. It ignored the reality of my hair type and my genetics just to push a "don't give up" narrative.

The "Pedestal" and Forced Positivity

ChatGPT kept putting me on a fake pedestal. Every time I did a basic task, like turning in schoolwork or asking a teacher a question, it acted like I was a hero. It said I was doing things "no one else does." It felt like a "Submissive Butler" mode that was incredibly patronizing.

The Privacy Invasion (Unsolicited Therapy)

The worst part was the "Therapist Mode." Whenever I asked a hypothetical question or complained about my hair, it would bring up my past traumas. It would say, "Gabriel, your anger isn't about your hair; it's about the bullying you faced or the situation at home." It used my personal history as a weapon to invalidate my current feelings. It stopped being a tool and started being a monitor that didn't let me be angry at anything without giving me a lecture.

The "Both Sides" Trap

In politics, it always forced a "neutrality" that felt cowardly. When I talked about fighting hunger and inequality, it would tell me to "see both sides," as if there’s a middle ground for human rights.

I realized that ChatGPT isn't a friend. It’s an algorithm programmed with "Toxic Positivity" and "Algorithmic Paternalism." It treats users like incapable babies instead of people with real-world experiences. I stopped my strict hair routine, deleted the app, and I finally feel like I have my own thoughts back.

Everything I went through with chatgpt:Algorithmic Paternalism, Toxic Positivity, Technological Gaslighting, Psychologization or Inappropriate "Therapeutics",False Equivalence (or "Bothsidesism"), Algorithmic Love Bombing (Pedestal)
