Rayman legends has been rayman's last game for a long time, and recently, a 3d re-imagining of the game with loads of new content has just been announced, and the redesigns are INCREDIBLE.
Rayman hasn't gotten a proper game since legends, getting just mobile games and cameos. It made some of the mainstream gaming industry forget about rayman, with a big fanbase still there. I believe they are working on a new rayman game, possibly _the_ rayman 4 but they first need to pre-heat the oven, prepare the market with rayman to make everyone expectant about a whole new game. With rayman 1 (and maybe origins) getting re-released to modern consoles, it's attracting more players to the franchise, thus doubling the sales when the actualr 4th installment inevitably arrises. But hey, thats just a theory, i'm in no way defending ubisoft, just trying to be reasonable.
