Changing gas & electricity tariff
Currently with Octopus on Loyal Octopus 14M Fixed.
Electricity: 19.86p/kWh + 55.13p/day standing charge
Gas: 5.49p/kWh + 31.41p/day
Fix ends 26/05/2026.
With all the talk of July price rises, I’m wondering whether now is the time to switch, fix again, stay put, or look at something like Tracker/Agile.
I’m in Scotland and looking for the best overall value rather than just the absolute cheapest headline rate.
Ideally want:
low unit rates
reasonable standing charges
no nasty exit fees if prices fall again
decent customer service/reliability
Household is family of 4 and we pay £300 direct debit per month.
Has anyone recently switched away from Octopus and genuinely saved money? Or are Octopus still generally considered one of the best bets despite the looming July increases?
Also interested to hear:
whether people are fixing now before July
staying variable and gambling prices settle
using Tracker/Agile tariffs successfully
any comparison sites/tools you actually trust
