UCLA finally hosted girls for an official visit

-Sadie Goldberg (four-star), Natalia Jones (four-star), and Malia Fang (five-star)

I know that it might be unavoidable for UCLA (because of the school’s quarter system), but I feel like the late visits really hold back the program’s recruiting power. Not to say that these girls aren't cream of the crop recruits — they are.

But schools like Alabama have already had about 14 girls visit.

Anyone else absurdly obsessed with HP fanfic (maybe to a detrimental extent)?

This interest has lasted YEARS for me, and I still find myself drawn to HP fanfic.

There are particular tropes that I’m especially obsessed with. Mostly, I tend to enjoy stories where Harry experiences some kind of serious abuse, and then receives healing and mentorship afterward.

I also do find myself particularly drawn to stories where Harry is notably gifted in some way. (There are plenty of other types of HP fanfics that I’ve enjoyed, but I do at least need Harry as the main character.)

For me, I suppose I crave attention and the feeling that others see me as special. With Harry, the bwl, I’m able to easily step into his shoes and enjoy the attention and sympathy that’s sent his way in fanfics.

The thing is, I’m sure that me obsessively reading these fics where Harry is abused isn't actually all that great for me.

I mean, reading thousands of HP fanfics has probably expanded my vocabulary. Still, it's also kept me up at night and is often what I turn to when I am avoiding something and want to procrastinate as a distraction from reality.

It's weird. I’ll go through lengthy chapters of my life where I won't read any HP fanfic. But when I start again, it grips me in full force for a while.

Mild annoyance: Instagrammars that respond to questions and conversational comments w “Sent you a message! Check it out.”

Like clearly some comments are looking to make a point, ask a question or to engage in a discussion. Not to get whatever it is that they are trying to DM you.

It’s particularly annoying when it's a somewhat smaller creator, like you'd think they'd want to actually engage and build authentic community over the auto responses

Edit: I meant “Instagrammers” it won't let me edit the title (even 2 seconds after posting) :(

I regret previously identifying as ace, because I’m not asexual

During college, I was pretty convinced that I was on the asexual spectrum.

I thought that because I had only, at that point, experienced about two mild crushes throughout the duration of my life.

I also didn't relate to society's sex obsession and had little desire to be in a romantic relationship. Additionally, I didn't relate to the idea that the soulmate you marry has to be someone you are romantically/sexually attracted to.

I thought that “gray ace” made sense as a label for me because I had, at that point in my life, only experienced sexual attraction a couple of fleeting times.

Reflecting back, I do think that the label kind of fit me at the time. However, it wasn't until about a year after college that I lost my virginity.

Before that, I had previously tried to have sex with a guy I dated briefly in high school, but it literally didn't work because I didn't feel excited to have sex, and my muscles clenched up and completely penis blocked him from entering even a little bit — vagina wall. He broke up with me after that.

That not-so-great experience, I think, made me sex averse and less interested in romantic relationships.

When I did actually have sex for the first time later on, a layer of increased horniness opened up for me, and I do feel sexual attraction towards others more often as well.

Looking back, I think identifying as ace gave me another reason to avoid relationships that might have become sexual. I had assumed I simply wasn't interested, but I now think fear and anxiety played a much bigger role than I realized.
