Help with tantrums/defiance, please and thanks!

This might be more of a vent, but I’m hoping for some advice from other parents. I’ve been listening to/reading resources on ADHD, but don’t seem to finding what works for my 7-year old.

He was diagnosed 6 months ago with ADHD, and is on 10mg of Metadate taken daily. An example of how challenging situations with him can be happened last week at an amusement park where eventually we got him a $8 snowcone in a large cup. Within minutes he had spilled maybe 10% of it. It was over after that. He kept focusing on the fact that his little brother’s didn’t spill and this it was unfair that he got less. He insisted we buy a new one and even offered his birthday money to buy it himself. We refused and told him multiple times that he still had plenty of snowcone left. It got heated and he demanded we take him home. I told him that we explained our rationale and we were done talking about the snowcone. Eventually I had to be firm and explain that if he didn’t take a few breaths to try and calm down, that some of his toys would need to go in timeout later. This just made it worse as you can imagine. Finally with his brother not finishing his snowcone, our son combined the remains of that snowcone with his and he was happy.

I feel like things were getting better with him and his attitude, but the last two weeks have been rough.

I’d love some empathy and tips if you are willing to share?

I’m currently on 100 mg (have been for years) and deal with a decent amount of anxiety when I experience certain triggers (in my case it’s usually messages from certain family members). I got one last night, and all day today I’m just feeling a heightened pressure on my chest, anxious thoughts, thoughts that catastrophic, etc.

Do you all think it would be wise to go up in dosage? I’m sure I’ll still experience some form of this anxiety no matter what, but I hate this constant feeling and want it to go away. Thanks for any suggestions.
