Buying OLED without HDR?

I am thinking of pulling the trigger on an AOC OLED monitor despite them being supposedly really bad at HDR. Why you might ask? Because AOC in my region is the best value by some margin like it's not even close.

So I am thinking of just using SDR on it pretending that HDR doesn't exist so I don't get disappointed. From my perspective I have never experienced HDR so I don't really know what it's about. But I am well aware of the SDR shortcomings of my LCD monitor. It's like I have always wanted to remove SDR shortcomings since that is my baseline. From everything I have read, AOC monitors are every bit as good as other brands in SDR.

What do you think?

Is QD-OLED objectively superior in a dark room for gaming with VRR?

Everything I have read about the differences between QD-OLED and WOLED point to a resounding win for QD-OLED in this particular use case.

Dithering/banding and VRR gamma shift all seem to be worse on WOLED and these things are more noticeable in a dark room.

Even a scratched QD-OLED screen won't show the scratches without ambient light unless you really fuck up. The raised black issue is obviously not applicable here.

QD-OLED seems to have better colors by most counts. There doesn't seem to be consensus on what's better for HDR. But QD-OLED does seem to have objectively better image quality for SDR at least.

QD-OLED flaws seem to be more about the environment(too much light, harder to clean when splashed by something oily) whereas WOLED seems to have more inherent limitations but more practical outer design.

Any pushback to my thoughts? I don't own an OLED, I have just been obsessively researching because in my region we can't return items once purchased if they don't have a defect. So I really have to go the extra mile in my research.

I think I just robbed my friends

We are a group of 10-12 who have been playing holdem for a long time. I was card dead and bored so I just suggested out of the blue that we play 4 card PLO. Nobody even knew about the game but everyone got super intrigued when I explained the rules.

So we immediately switched to it for the night. Nobody complained. But you can imagine what happened with me being the only person who had played this variant before and knows what is and isn't good value in PLO.

It's literally the easiest money I have ever made. Everyone was playing as if it's holdem. I didn't intend for it to go down like this. It took me a few hands to realize what happens when an entire table plays PLO for the first time.

What should I buy first?

I am sorry for making so many threads on what I should buy. The thing is that in my country there is no such thing as returning a product. If the product isn't broken or defective, then you just have to live with it so I really have to be sure of what I am doing.

I am planning on buying a 32 inch OLED monitor and a 48 inch OLED TV for my endgame PC gaming setup.

4th gen QD-OLED and LG C6 48 seems like the ultimate combo. But either is probably not going to be available in my region for 6 months if not more.

That's too much of a wait and life is short so I want to buy at least one product immediately. I am yearning for the OLED experience. So the question is whether 3rd gen QD-OLED or LG C5 48 is a lesser compromise compared to their latest generations? WOLED monitors are not available here mind you.

How has ASUS not gotten more flak for how they have treated the XG32UCWMG?

This monitor was reviewed *very* favourably. Rtings and Monitors Unboxed basically declared it as the best overall 4K OLED monitor of 2025.

Yet ASUS is still not providing any firmware update for this model? They previously did but then pulled them off from the support page of this product and have since done nothing about it. You have to manually hunt for the files if you want to update the firmware. How is this acceptable for a supposed premium monitor brand?

Poker sponsorships cause a huge misconception among viewers

You watch someone like Daniel Negreanu and you may think that you can also make it and sustain the high stakes life if you can play like him. But actually the reality is that Daniel would have almost no chance of making it today from scratch with his skill set. He is not an elite level player in any format of poker. To be clear I am not saying that he can't sustain a living from poker today but certainly not high stakes poker.

I feel like it's honestly maybe a bit irresponsible to go about your vlog life without disclosing how much you are making from sponsorships. Or at least not clearly mentioning that sponsorships are what enable your lifestyle and not poker itself.

I am only using Daniel as an example. This can apply to a lot of other players too so by no means it's something personal against him.

I have fully accepted the idea of micro scratches visible only under a bright light. What I want to know is whether you are also inevitably going to get scratches on QD-OLED that would be visible *while* the screen is on? That would be a total nightmare.

Due to my region I have limited options and instead of forever waiting, I am thinking of just pulling the trigger on a 3rd gen QD-OLED panel.
