Hi everyone,

I’ve seen a lot of people in Belgium (especially in Flanders) talking about switching careers or trying to get into IT/tech, so I thought this might be useful.

There’s a free coding school called 42, with campuses in Antwerp and Brussels.

It’s quite different from traditional education:

no teachers or lectures

learning is project-based

peer-to-peer evaluation (you learn by working with others)

very hands-on and focused on problem-solving instead of theory

It’s designed for people who want to build real technical skills and potentially move into software development or tech roles, even if they are starting from zero.

IT is still a field where there is strong demand in Belgium, and many people use alternative paths like this to transition into the sector.

If anyone is curious, there is an Open Day on May 30 at 42 Antwerp where you can visit, ask questions and see how it works in place.

Just sharing in case it helps someone who is considering a change or looking for new skills.

Ik kende 42 eerst via online advertenties en dacht eerlijk gezegd dat het misschien een scam was of zo’n “te mooi om waar te zijn” opleiding 😅

Maar ondertussen studeer ik hier al een tijd in Antwerpen, en het is eigenlijk een van de meest intense en interessante leeromgevingen die ik ooit heb meegemaakt.

Er zijn geen leerkrachten, veel zelfstandig werk, peer-to-peer evaluaties, veel debugging, samenwerken, stress… maar je leert wel echt problemen oplossen in plaats van gewoon theorie uit het hoofd te leren.

Het is ook totaal anders dan traditioneel onderwijs, wat voor sommige mensen net een groot voordeel kan zijn.

Ik merk dat veel mensen in Antwerpen eigenlijk niet goed weten wat 42 is of denken dat het niet “echt” is, dus daarom deel ik dit hier gewoon even 🙂

Er is trouwens een open day op 30 mei bij 42 Antwerp voor mensen die nieuwsgierig zijn naar hoe het er in werkelijkheid aan toegaat.
