I recently read about an “unnamed” local politician whom I had previously a great deal of respect come outright a state that she is supporting a right-wing maga candidate for Governor ONLY BECAUSE HE IS BLACK! I find her behavior despicable and alarming. Why is this being publicly tolerated? It really saddens me.

STEP ONE: finding the right place to learn the ropes.

My advice, find a gym that trains fighters.

1. Ring at the gym, if not it’s most then it’s likely a for aerobics only. It’s a great workout no judgement, but if you want to learn the sport you need to learn to “fight” a real human being in a ring. It like learning tennis without a court.
2. Gym has handful of items for sale conspicuously eg hand wraps. They are quality items from Thailand not Chinese garbage.
3. They have speed bags, heavy bags and other equipment set up on periphery but only a few for warming up.
4. Good quality floors you are comfortable walking around barefoot and possibly impact absorbing.
5. Flyers/cards on display for amateur fighters willing to do 1-1 training to make extra money usually on board or taped to wall somewhere. Indicates there is ecosystem of learning. Also pictures of fights in Thai stadiums +++ if pictures are of fighters from gym.
6. Open gym hours between “classes.”
7. Clock/timer/bell.
8. Meet the “owner” and ensure they have experience competing in Muay Thai specifically.
9. Gym should be utilitarian over luxury. A good MT gym should be clean but “worn” to keep training affordable should be used. Too nice usually means too expensive. It’s about the PEOPLE.
