What's a Gainesville restaurant that closed that you still miss?

Mine is Granny's. Those bread rolls were unreal. I could eat like 20 of those things in one sitting.
What's yours?

Santigold and the GNV community were immaculate last night

Just wanted to express some gratitude for an amazing night of live music and beautiful people. Gainesville really showed up for a Wednesday!

Props to Heartwood for the talent they are bringing in and developing a community-based independent music venue. It's a special and rare thing.

SwampCon Financial Announcement

Saw this had been posted about an hour ago on their FB page, sharing here since SwampCon's been a staple of Gainesville geek/nerd culture more than just a UF event, or at least has been to me. Here's hoping things work out one way or another.

Gainesville gangs and Hood stories

I’ve been out of touch for a while and was curious if anyone knows what’s been going on lately with the streets, local gangs, and hood stories around Gainesville. I keep hearing people mention an “Outwest” gang/crew but can’t find much real info on them.

Also, was the KTop murder ever solved? I remember hearing about it back then but never found out what happened.

Just looking for updates, history, or stories from people who actually know the area. How much has Gainesville changed over the years?

Imagined vision of how the city could build dedicated paved bike infrastructure to alleviate traffic issues in West Gainesville.

Red - paved bike path / boardwalk
Maroon - alternative paths
Purple - crossings

Welcoming church around here?

Looking to go to a church for the first time in years. Looking an overall welcoming one that I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable going to solo

Chinese pistache tree

We are trying to decide between several tree species to plant in our backyard. The Chinese pistache has been recommended but we would like to see a mature specimen in person. Does anyone know of one in town?

Sandy’s Resale boutique

I recently was given a jacket my aunt didn’t want anymore new with tags. Original price is around 400, and I need the money so I wanted to take it to a consignment shop. Any idea how much Sandy’s might give me? Or what their general offers tend to be? Or if there are any high end clothing resalers nearby? Thanks!

Edit: for all those saying marketplace or online I’ll try! Also kinda want to try some local places to see what offers I get plus I need to get out cause I’m bored and depressed😂

Any local little free libraries need restocking?

I’ll be clearing out some of my grandmother’s bookshelf over the next week and would love to drop them off at a LFL that’s currently looking empty. Lots of cookbooks, so they’re tall books

Any nice community recommendations that do active things with chill vibes I’m trying to get out more while also learning new hobbies.
Thank you in advance 🙂🙂

Hairdresser recs?

Hey! I’ve been due for a haircut, but i don’t normally go to just anyone bc ive been done dirty many times at hairdressers so i normally cut my own hair.

i want a haircut where i can’t do it myself, so i was wondering if there was any great and affordable options around me? my normal hairdresser moved out of state, so i was wondering if yall had any recs.

To the absolute fucking clown who ran a red light and almost caused a 5-car pileup at 34th and University today: LEARN HOW TO DRIVE.

I don't know who gave you a license, or if you just pulled it out of a cereal box, but you are going to genuinely kill someone.

I was closing in on the intersection of 34th and University, getting into the lane to turn left, when I look in my rearview mirror and see this absolute psycho flying up behind me like they're trying to qualify for NASCAR. Instead of slowing down like a normal human being with a functioning brain, this brain-dead smooth-brain swerves around me at the last absolute millisecond, cuts off the entire lane, and blasts straight through a blatant red light to whip a blind left turn right in front of me.

You missed my front bumper by inches. INCHES.

Your main-character-syndrome ass couldn't wait two minutes for the light to change. The sheer audacity to risk multiple people's lives just so you could shave 30 seconds off your drive to wherever the hell you were going is completely disgusting.

Seriously, sell your car and take the bus. You do not possess the mental capacity or the spatial awareness required to operate heavy machinery. If you keep driving like this, you will wrap your car around a tree or, worse, hit an innocent person.

To everyone else navigating that absolute nightmare of an intersection today: stay safe out there, because the local idiots are out in full force.

Love bugs + cars

What are you guys doing about the love bugs on your car? Are you frequently going to the car wash? Washing it yourselves? I can’t see!
