Trickle usage of grid

Recent install and I can see that the house is using a trickle amount of electricity (4-5p per day).

I know this isn’t world changing amounts, but just wondering if that trickle usage is standard by the inverter maintaining grid connection, or not.

Forecast.Solar - Home Assist and Solar

For those solar owners running Home Assistant, have you bothered with a subscription to Forecast.Solar?

I have 2 strings of panels, over 3 faces of a roof, and in order to add more than 1 orientation, it needs an API. This is only available with a paid subscription.

Dod you bother with the forecast, do you find it useful, and will a paid subscription really make the forecasting that much better?

I assume that with a well setup HA, using forecasting will allow the system to manage battery charging off-peak much better.

Feeling overwhelmed with the tariffs.

I was on the IOG until the 5th of the month when the contract ended. Right now, I am on the standard flex for both Gas and Electric.

I do have an EV but don't charge all that much at home, so I have opted to not look at these for now. I am instead considering a Solar and Battery install, and then addressing the move over accordingly.

I find that I struggle to get the house to shift its load to the off-peak hours to really benefit from IOG, and the new prices are scandalous for me (I know they're not). I was able to lock in at a 3p/kWh night rate than this is now 8p, but that peak rate is bonkers. As it stands right now, I am better off on the flex tariff (I think).

Anyone else feeling the pinch a little harder than they expected this OFEGM increase than last?

Gateway - must have, or nice to have?

For batteries that have the ability to provide whole house backup, how important is it for a new install to consider speccing the gateway?

Is it something people regret not getting, or would the money be better placed making sure the inverter is the right size?

Would someone get a 3.6kW inverter and a gateway or a 6kW inverter and no gateway?

Sense check on a Solar Quote

Hi. Currently exploring Solar and Battery and in the middle of discussions with Pure Volts.

The quote I am being given is:

  • 14x LONGi 475w (LR7-54HVB-475m) Panels
  • SigEnergy SigenStor BAT 10.0
  • SigenStor EC6.0SP Contoller
  • Fitted with Scaffolding and Bird Proofing

£9184

I have asked about the EcoFlow Power Ocean 2, and that is an extra £450. I am tempted to go with the EcoFlow Ocean 2 for £9634 - pending negotiations.

I feel that this is a good quote, but this is against BOXT and Octopus alongside Heatable, USwitch and the company that shall not be named with Sun in the name (thanks to this sub).

For comparison, Octopus was offering 12 panels with a 10.64kWh Fox ESS Battery for just under £11,500 and Scaffolding was extra.

Are the quotes I am getting reasonable?

Help with looking after grass

I live in a property that is 26yrs old, and whilst not a new build, I think the grass is the originally laid grass from new.

We have grass at the front which we have treated this year with Richard Jackson’s Flower Power Moss Remover.

I’ve just mowed the lawn and it’s riddled with moss. It’s worse now that in was last year.

I’m in no way green thumbed, but would like to at least get the front grass to look half decent on the street. Pictures attached show the cuttings from this mow.

Please give me advice. It’s starting it brown even though is been throughly watered. We have had torrential rain for a few days on the back of a wet two weeks. Today is lovely and sunny, so I’ll be giving it a water before bed.
