Do you offer to work on public holidays?

Are you someone that offers to work and do a small job on public holidays?

I offer Saturday work and some Public Holidays because not everyone can do during the week. The customer I did works 8-6 every day and Saturdays until 2pm. I did the job, travelled and was home by 11:30am. I was out the door at 6:30am.

I didn’t charge extra and will take tomorrow off in lieu of today’s work.

I was still home to enjoy most of the day and watch the footy.

I saw a few Utes, trailers and small trucks out as if they were going to a job and it got me thinking…….

How to report possible likely slow/dodgy speedtest.net server?

I have some Speed Tests running via Starlink and they run every 5 minutes for monitoring.

I've noticed a consistent pattern where everything using a "ChainLinkHosting | ChainLinkNetworks" server is slow compared to other services.

Examples:

Have no problems with other speed test servers:

I confirmed this also via my NBN (Fibre) connection. I specifically chose the ChainLinkHosting server and it was slow - https://www.speedtest.net/result/19284509043

If I used Telstra for example, my Fibre connection is what it should be 500/200 - https://www.speedtest.net/result/19284511637

How to get this fixed so the dodgy/slow test server is removed?

Wholesale/Reseller NBN Services with small Minimum Requirements

Hi everyone,

I am looking for Wholesale/Reseller NBN and VOIP services for my MSP. Relatively new the MSP space and have enquired with AussieBB who have advised they need about 50/60 services a month to have a $5,000 minimum within 12 months.

Are there any other providers who have a possible smaller requirement?

Looking to be a one stop shop for customers and not have services all over the place and make a little bit on the additional services.

I've enquired with Leaptel and heard nothing so far.

Cheers

Pretty Successful Side Hustle Business - Should you list on your resume?

I have been running a fairly successful service-based side business for the past three years. I originally started it as a weekend venture while working full-time. Over that period I've built it into a relatively sustainable source of income.

Unfortunately, I was recently made redundant, so the business is currently my primary source of income. While it's generally sustainable, the work does fluctuate and the future can be a bit unknown. For example, I had a full week of work last week, but only a couple of smaller jobs scheduled this week. This can change quickly though. The phone could ring today and all of a sudden I get more jobs.

My goal is to have a full-time Monday–Friday role and continue operating the business on weekends, as I have done previously.

I'm unsure whether I should include any of this on my resume.

Running the business has given me experience beyond the works itself. I handle every aspect of the business:

  • Sales and lead generation
  • Customer service
  • Quoting and proposals
  • Scheduling
  • Invoicing
  • Marketing

I genuinely believe the experience I've learnt complements my previous employment experience and demonstrates initiative, accountability, commercial awareness, and business management skills.

My concern is how potential employers may perceive it. While I see it as a positive indicator of my work ethic and ability to manage responsibilities, I'm worried some businesses/HR might see it as a distraction or question my commitment to a full-time role.

Has anyone included a successful side business on their resume when applying for full-time roles? Did it help? Did it hurt your opportunities? If you did include it and were successful, how did you position it on your resume?

What is a fair wait time for final payout?

I was terminated from my job on the 15th of May. It was weekly pay period and I am owed 1 weeks notice plus accruad annual leave (only roughly 20 hours). I was generally paid on a Thursday evening. The day I was terminated, my pay was received at 8am, I thought something was odd that day. I was terminated at 5pm that day.

How long should I wait before escalating things? I emailed the business owner who does payroll on Friday (22nd) to follow up and awaiting a response.

Hi everyone,

I am a Sole Trader currently using Xero and whilst it is great, I feel $75 a month is a bit high for 1 person and all I use it for is tracking invoicing and expenses. It used to be cheaper but it keeps going up and up.

What alternatives are people using that are good bang for buck and allow Credit Card Payments via Stripe?

Plus also is good for a migration from Xero to the new tool.

Thanks.

I’m hoping to get some advice on a generator issue that’s got me scratching my head.

I’ve got two generators I’ve been using with a manual changeover switch at home. One is a small 3kVA unit with a single 15A outlet, and the other is a larger Vyking Force VF8000G (rated 7.2kW, 8kW max) with two 15A outlets. The smaller generator works perfectly through the changeover setup with no issues at all, but the larger one is giving me trouble.

When I connect the 9kVA generator to the house via the changeover switch and switch over to it, the generator’s own breaker trips almost immediately. What’s strange is that this happens even with very minimal load. Simply turning on the lights or a single 240V power circuit is enough to trip it. It’s not like I’m trying to run heavy loads all at once.

The confusing part is that the generator itself seems fine. If I run appliances directly off it using extension leads, it performs exactly as expected. It handles load without any issues and doesn’t trip at all. So it doesn’t seem like a capacity or engine problem.

I’ve tried keeping loads as low as possible and introducing them slowly, but it still trips as soon as I energise house circuits through the changeover. Meanwhile, the 3kVA generator works on the exact same setup without any dramas. I do have to reduce some of the load for the smaller generator, but I can get most of the house runnings off it no problems. Just cannot boil the kettle.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Any insight would be appreciated.
