Going to start biking to work this week.

At least some days - this week, it will only be 2 days I think, but it's a start.

I do not have a rack on the bike, but my day pack is fairly well ventilated, and I only need to carry work clothes and lunch, so nothing especially heavy.

Showering at work isn't an option (gym opens at the same time my shift starts), so I'm going to take some body wipes, hairbrush, and deodorant with me too. I can change in a washroom stall.

It's only about a 6km ride, so I shouldn't have to worry about getting too sweaty, or needing fuel or fluids at all.

We have a bike rack at the front of the building, and I have a 'U' shaped lock with an extra cable for the wheels.

Any advice for a first-time commuter ?

I have a bonus bone in my knee

I apparently have a bonus bone in my knee.

Teeny tiny not attached to anything - but not a floating bone chip from a break - just a bonus bone !!

Humans are SO weird!!

Two weeks post Half . . . And post injury

It's been two weeks since I ran my second half-marathon, I haven't been able to run since, because gravity beat me during the race.

Day was gorgeous, and my race started out strong .

But at about 4km, I mis-navigated a turn and ran out of sidewalk, missed the curb, and found the road hard !!

I banged up my arm, cut up my hands, and sprained my ankle.

Oh - and I went off course at about 14km and added about 500m to my total distance !!

I somehow finished the race - I was so focused on my arm that I didn't realize I'd hurt my ankle for quite a while.

Scared my poor husband who was watching when I ran up to him bleeding with a rather large lump on my forearm - the poor guy :( I feel bad now.

By the time I realized I had actually hurt my ankle as well, I was totally invested in the race and finished it.

Not once did a first aid bike ask me if I was okay (I was visibly bleeding), not a marshal or race official of any kind. I would have waved them off. But I am a bit miffed about this.

I finished with a PB - adrenaline is a great thing (or not, depending on your point of view). 2.5 mins faster than my previous half-marathon!

Went to the ER post-race for X-rays on my right ankle, left knee, and right arm !

No visible fractures, luckily.

Spent 10 days with no weight bearing, and now just walking. Still some residual swelling.

I miss running.

Is there anywhere in Oshawa / Whitby area to do walk-in X-rays (I have a requisition already) that is open past 4pm on Fridays?

Or is open on Saturday.

Ran a race.

Got a personal best - took roughly 2.5 minutes off my previous half-marathon time.

Bailed hard at about 4-ish km - right off a curb into a live lane of traffic !! Thankfully no car was coming.

Pavement - 1 / Me - 0

Finished anyhow.

A sprained ankle, hematomas on my right arm and left knee.

Plenty of cuts, scrapes and bruises. A foot the size of a football.

My EVERYTHING hurts still, 4 days later, and I still can't put any weight on my right leg.

I can honestly say that I do NOT recommend running 17+km on a sprained ankle !!

But - will heal and get back to running in short order !!

Bailed off a curb during a race on Sunday (about 2 1/2 days ago) about 4.5 km into a 21.1km race

In my brilliance, I finished the race - even took 2 minutes off my previous best half-marathon time *lol*

Now - my foot is the size of a football, and my whole body hurts.

I did have X-rays on Sunday afternoon - no fracture seen.

Swelling has been increasing.

I have bruising, scrapes and hematomas on my knees, hands and right arm as well - so crutches are no fun at the moment. I did not hit my head.

Anyone willing to place bets on how long before I can safely run again ?
