Death's Divide - My Latest XL Hota (Horn of the Abyss) Map

Good afternoon.

This is Niomiah/Geldoph, you may know me for maps such as; May the Meteor Have Mercy, The Day Heaven Abandoned Us, Ash & Mirage, Tempest Nexus and a few others.

After months of rigorous testing, I am proud to announce that my latest map, Death's Divide is finally finished.

This is an XL Horn of the Abyss map in the same vein as May the Meteor Have Mercy, although the progression is slightly different.

The map has 8 players, each with set starting locations depending on the faction. The center is a cursed land known as the Valley of Death where it's crucial to possess a certain artifact to progress without being cursed (This is achieved with the new Extended Event System introduced in Hota's Bulwark update.). There are ways to bypass the valley and get to enemy territory, although I'll leave it up to you to figure out how.

Fly, Dimension Door and Town Portal are banned by default, but Town Portal can be earned via opening a path by completing a certain quest-line.

To make travelling the land less tedious, I included the addition of a "Nexus" which connects the various regions with portals. However these can only be accessed by visiting the corresponding Keymaster's Tent for each land. This means that you're required to infiltrate enemy territory first before unlocking the shortcuts.

Both the underground and the center feature tough battles to keep the sense of progression going even after your starting zone has been cleared.

This is not a challenge map, it is closer in design to classic Heroes 3 maps where you can play at your own pace. Saying that, the computer players do receive bonuses throughout the progression of the game and with the way the map is laid out, this map is not completely beginner friendly.

Most of the map-balancing was done through the Queen difficulty, so take from that what you will.

I am excited to hear what you all think and please let me know if you run into any glaring issues while playing so I can update the scenario accordingly.

This is where you can find Death's Divide:

I recommend playing the map with the H3 Landscape mod if you want the battlefields to be more immersive, particularly for Dungeon's starting zone (Which makes the biome look above ground during battles) and for variety when battling in the vast underground network. Although this is completely optional.
