Help me set up my balcony garden

I have a 4ft by 8 ft balcony and I want to start growing some herbs such as cilantro, thyme, basil, dill. I know nothing about gardening.

What size containers should I buy, what types of soil should I look into, and should I just get all my supplies from home depot (including seeds)?

Any other tips would be highly appreciated to help me set up my garden.

Paying someone to clean carpet vs. getting a cleaner from Home Depot

I've had my carpet in my bedroom for about a year and want to get it cleaned. I can pay someone $50/hr (not including cost of materials) to get it professionally cleaned. I'm not sure how much materials will cost, but my bedroom is relatively small.

The alternative is I can rent a carpet cleaner from Home Depot and do it myself

What are the pros/cons to each?

What should I grow on my balcony?

I have a 8 feet wide balcony facing the sun and I would like to grow some plants that I can eat/use for cooking. I have about ~4 months until it gets cold (<40F) and the plants will likely die then so looking for something that can grow in that timeframe.

After that I'd like to get plants/flowers that survive indoors (it can be different than the outdoor ones) though.

I've never done any gardening before but please let me know your suggestions for a good strategy of what to grow

Does doing jury duty in one state count towards another?

I did jury duty last year (state level) but I moved state and switched drivers licenses this year. I got picked for jury duty again in my new state. Do I have to go again?
