Cipralex (escitalopram), any advice?

Hello guys, I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Adjustment Disorder. About a month ago, my gastroenterologist prescribed Amitriptyline 12.5 mg, which I took for the past 3 weeks, but honestly it felt like hell for me, so I stopped it 2 days ago without tapering, as advised.

Today I visited a psychiatrist, and he prescribed Cipralex (Escitalopram) 5 mg together with Lexotanil (a benzodiazepine) 3 mg. He told me I should start them immediately because my mental state is currently very overwhelmed — I’m constantly nervous and struggling with anxiety and panic attacks almost all the time.

Has anybody here tried Cipralex? How were the first couple of weeks for you? I’ve never really been a fan of SSRIs, and I’m honestly scared of starting one and regretting it later..

Also, my brother is getting married next week, and I’m worried about feeling mentally unwell during such an important time or having side effects from starting the SSRI right now.

Can I stop taking dose 12.5 mg suddenly?

Hello everyone, I was on amitriptyline for the past 3 weeks (12.5 mg), as I have general anxiety disorder and depression. The medicine didn’t do anything, it made me super anxious with severe anxiety attacks and disassociation which was also horrible. I asked yesterday a pharmacist, and he told me to taper off by taking (one day 12.5 mg, the next day skip) for a week. I started yesterday by not taking it, and I must say the symptoms were horrible. Therefore, I decided completely not to take it anymore. Does this actually need a taper off plan?

Amitriptyline anxiety waves

I started taking Amitriptyline 12.5 mg almost 3 weeks ago for anxiety and stomach issues. The first week was horrible, I was super anxious and terrified of everything. Then it got better.. For the past 3 days, I’ve been having intense anxiety waves during the day — like adrenaline/fire in my chest, inner restlessness, and panic sensations every few hours (this increased two days ago as I traveled back to my home country), and this feeling is making me avoid friends/family because I feel mentally and physically overwhelmed.

I seriously zone out most of the time, or act strangely but I try not to show how anxious I am, and my brain just thinks about 1000 topics and bad scenarios all the time which contributes to the anxiety loop again and again.

Has anyone experienced worsening anxiety or activation on low-dose amitriptyline? I am thinking of tapering it off asap..

Hey guys!

I started amitriptyline yesterday (supposed to take 25 mg, but took \~12.5-15 mg). I started the medicine for gut brain axis anxiety, later on I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety.

Yesterday my thoughts felt super slow, almost like a fever dream. Today I've been really groggy, and now in the evening I have pretty bad nausea.
Is this normal when starting? Does the nausea ever go away? Also the anxiety attacks?

I know the medicine needs a while to work, but I am just extremely anxious:(
