Fics set in the real world
I’m interested in reading fics that feel firmly set in the real world. Often the plot/characters in fics feel very insular and the outside world doesn’t affect them so much — anyone have any recs for stories that go beyond its little universe? Whether that’s through setting or plot or what… does anyone know what I mean?
The best example I can come up with is Rozanov - Not On Hockey / vDud’ (https://archiveofourown.org/works/84048901) which includes a lot of Russian slang and cultural references that make Ilya feel very real and a product of his upbringing in a way that is not cliché.

Pupillary distance for child — help?
Hi — We are ordering glasses for my 8 yr old stepdaughter. She has a prescription but of course it does not come with a PD, and her mother did not ask for it at the appointment.
A family member who used to work at an optometrist measured it at 4.5cm but every time I put 45 PD in it gives me a warning that this is extremely unusual. Kid’s eyes ARE pretty close together but is this really so strange? Am I getting the wrong number? I have looked at a lot of how-tos and I’m not sure where I’m wrong, but it is very confusing.
