TW: nursing

From the very beginning, baby would latch but have poor milk transfer - he would latch but either fall asleep or just hang out and not suck. I think we met with 4 or 5 LCs who gave us tons of tips that didn’t seem to work, and all his weighted feeds he transferred 1oz or less.

After about 6 weeks of triple feeding I dropped regularly trying to BF and have been exclusively pumping, he’s now 6 months old. I still latch him a few times a week, mostly for soothing since it seemed to knock him out. Well… in the last week or two, he’s started to “get” it! Which is awesome. I’ve validated this both by him seeming to actually be feeding and seeming satiated after, and by pumping after and getting wayyyy less than I normally would.

However, at this point, I have a pretty established EPing routine, and I’m unsure how to add BFing into it except kind of randomly as I have been. Am I able to fully BF for some feeds and drop a pump or two? I WFH 4 days a week (and could conceivably BF on those days) and out of the house for 2 days/week. Anyone been in a similar situation and have any advice?

Baby is 6 months and I’ve been almost exclusively pumping the whole time - baby latches but has poor milk transfer, all our weighted feeds he transferred 1oz or less.

My dad will not stop bugging me about it.

“Don’t you think he would prefer breastfeeding?”

“Can’t you get a prosthetic breast that’s more like a bottle?”

“Do they make a table with holes in it that you could lay down on with the baby underneath so that gravity will help?” (I feel insane typing that one out but he’s suggested it multiple times)

I shut him down every time. I’m 6 months into pumping, working a full time job and a part time job, and about to start solids. I do latch baby occasionally but he’s only effectively nursed maybe 10 times ever. I’m not interested in trying anything new at this point.

Anyone else deal with similar or is my dad just particularly nuts? 😅
