In recent years Doctor Who's politics has just been way too on the nose to a point where it feels like political messaging is being prioritised over telling a good story - Andor is an great example of something that manages to tell an incredible sci fi story whilst delivering a meaningful message.

When you realise that the last time the BBC independently financed a full season of Doctor Who was 5 years ago, and since then they've undergone even more budget cuts and are only really able to now produce small budget dramas

Okay this will make more sense come Christmas, but if you want a hint for what the 2026 xmas special will look like, the plot was described by RTD in the Writers Guide (2010 edition) when discussing a direction he was considering going in for a certain episode towards the end of his run - the plot is obviously getting reworked, but the main framework is definitely already out there. I also hear that RTD is hoping to get Helen Bonham Carter to play a mother figure role in the episode, and pre-production is well and truly in motion for an August or September production start date.
