Recently bought an old Civic to use as a runabout, works fine but the hood will not lock properly, it locks into the first handle but will not go in the rest of the way, I’ve tried playing round with the cable release inside the car but it doesn’t seem to change much, the mechanism is fairly rusty so I also used loads of WD 40 to try and get it open but nothings worked so far, I suspect the cable may be seized as when I pull it it is tight despite the release being closed, any ideas?

The hood on my civic is suddenly not locking, the
first mechanism locks and I can unlock the hood just fine with the latch but I cannot get it to lock into place when I close it again, I’ve tried spraying WD40 into the latch mechanism and working it round and made sure the hood release was not engaged and pushed back to normal, any ideas?

It’s a Honda Civic Hatchback 1.4 i-Dsi SE 5d specifically
