To the point people start believing it as canon. In my fandom, there's a ship where one of the characters is often made much smaller than he actually is to better fit as a bottom in fics and art. Recently, I posted a shirtless image of him from the actual show on tumblr and some people were in disbelief that he was that buff. It seems like the common headcanon of him being much smaller has made people selectively blind while watching the actual show.
