What's the point of the employee tilting the scanner? It's way easier to just scan the your membership ID yourself. Are they messing with us?
It seems like they are trying to help but it's uselessly performative and honestly kind of demeaning for the employee.
For the record, I'm not angry about this. It's just kind of sad and embarrassing.
A similar example: Starbucks intentionally messing up names on drinks. I think that is absolutely hilarious, but I know they're messing with me. If the assisted self-scan is some kind of Andy Kaufman prank on reality then I'm totally back in.
