A question for the shrimp gods;
Yesterday morning I noticed one of my crystal red shrimp laying laterally. Big sad, I thought she had passed..but a gentle poke with forceps and she got moving (but not in the usual rapid fire shrimp speed). She shuffled forward a few centimetres and then became lateral again. Big sad, but I had to leave for work.
Arrived home 10 hours later, she'd moved towards the back of the tank. Looked deceased, go to get her out and she shuffles forward again.
Not really knowing what was going on, I put a small piece of shrimp pellet near her. I dont know what I was expecting, but I thought itd be a last ditch effort. She slowly eats it and a couple hours later, she's shuffled to the front of the tank. Later on she started climbing the rotala, and today she's pretty much behaving like nothing happened.
At first I thought she'd been bumped mid moult by her other shrimp tank mates, but the fact she was still alive 10 hours later made me doubt moulting issues. (I also didnt see a shed of her size)
Then I thought possibly old age? ive only had her for a couple months, but theres a chance I was sent an older female from the breeder.
otherwise, the tanks stable. I checked the water quality when I got home and she was still morbundish.
PH sits around 6.4, KH 80, ALK 80, GH 75, no detectable chlorine, nitrites, copper, iron or ammonia. There was low range nitrates, which the tanks had consistently for months. The tank is planted with cO2.
I'm interested if anyone else has has similar occur? whether the food was a placebo, or it genuinely made a difference? or if it would have been fine regardless
