For how long can we keep cornrows in?

My daughters (hair types 1B-2B) have long hair and are little girls under 6 years old. We love braids because it keeps the hair out of the face, and brushing on their tender heads is always a struggle.

As a mother, I feel this need to freshen their hair daily and come up with a new style each day for school. This means at least an hour of hair care every day for each girl, which feels like a lot.

I usually do tiny cornrows in the summer and they keep great. The girls get to focus on just being kids without their hair being a constant battle. (And no, they do not want to cut it - they want hair like Rapunzel).

During the school year - would it be acceptable to do maybe 3-5 larger cornrows and keep them in for at least half the week, maybe even the whole week? Would I be doing a disservice to my daughters by doing that? I do French braids a lot but never two days in a row, I think for some kind of fear of judgement as a mother.

My toddler especially I tend to keep cornrows in because she’s at home with me and it keeps the bangs out of her mouth when she’s eating. A lot of the time I’ll only braid to the crown just to keep the hair out of the face. I’m mostly concerned with the one in school and how the same hairstyle every day would be perceived by her peers and the staff she sees daily.
