Switching to a Dumb phone setup - systems and experiences of others, tips

Good day. I am a 32/M, physician, married, no kids yet, living in a province in the Philippines. Increasingly being aware of how constant screen exposure has been affecting my focus and presence. I think I am LESS distracted than most people - I don't while away a significant part of my day scrolling, but I want to take it up a notch. I am currently on an iPhone 15 Plus for the past 3 years. I've tried multiple things - hiding my phone, turning on grayscale, but what I want is ultimate minimalism - I still find myself reaching for my phone during idle moments.

What are your thoughts on switching to a brick phone? Call and text only? My specialty as a doctor does NOT require me to be online all the time, and at the same time, if I need to contact someone - a family member etc, I can always use my iPad or laptop- which involves a lot more friction, and I feel like I would be more intentional with the conversation if I don't just randomly pop out my phone. If I need to answer to an urgent call from a colleague, I can still do it. But I understand that the nature of my job requires me to receive messages with some sense of urgency as well, so there's that - either I just always call them back with a brick phone or keep the smartphone with very limited or time windows for interaction.

I've recently been going to the gym 3x per week and reading physical books again, which I've found has great benefits for focus. Also walking occasionally.

I am on instragram, but I only occasionally post a story. Maybe once every 3 weeks. also on facebook but have downloaded apps that virtually turn off the feed. Same with youtube.

I'm at a point in my life where I'm not really bothered not being connected digitally or at least learning about what others are eating for breakfast, or where they're travelling next.

I'm partly also doing this as preparation as I start a family - so that our future children don't see us using phones constantly, and to increase my presence with family. I'm starting out by trying to place the phones away from the dinner table during meals, as well as not using it at bed time.

Thoughts? Suggested systems? I don't think blocking apps work particularly quite well as well.

Thank you!

Thoughts on retinting 1 week old Car - SOLREX (pre installed) vs Primeshield Nanoceramic

Our new car (BYD Atto 3) came with preinstalled tint na Solrex brand. Read mixed reviews about it, but so far di naman super init sa kotse. Kaya namin mga 22-23 degrees level 4 or 5 fan under Philippine midday sun.

Have read elsewhere sa ibang forums na may mga tint na stronger pa. Ung sa Primeshield Lipa (anybody with experience po with this specific branch?) ay Primeshield NANOCERAMIC Tint.

Was thinking kung may sense ba ipa-retint kaagad? Una, ung tint namin may weird marks underneath the tint - not sure ano siya, baka markings nung installer, na slightly visible from the inside if you take notice.

Along the same line, sunroof pinapatint niyo rin ba? Para less init pa lalo - then less AC requirements. Baka lang di siya magamit for great viewing experience as much kung nakatint

Thank you!

Thoughts on partial PPF vs full Panel PPF - New BYD Atto 3

Hi, have asked here before but just to ask again - inquiring from those with cars who had PPF applied - was it worth it? And is it reasonable to just apply PARTIAL PPF (high risk front areas only)

Use case:
- AT LEAST 3-4 x daily drive sa highway
- 700 km weekly
- foresee this to be our lifestyle for AT LEAST 3-4 more years

Ang mahal kasi and we were thinking if it’d be just more practical to selectively coat the high risk areas to save some money, then just ceramic coating for other sections

Also thinking that (psychologically) baka lang actually hindi maging mas maingat knowing may protection from the PPF. Very nuanced perspective lang.

Inquired from multiple installers na rin - mostly different brands but the one brand na nakikita ko lang na legit is the Suntek one.

In short:
Would you recommend a PARTIAL PPF in a BYD Atto 3 that rides the highway 3-4x per week sa STAR toll, then 700 km ang mileage PER WEEK. Mga ganitong lifestyle in the next 3-4 years pa.

Plan to keep our BYD Atto 3 long - term. Not sure rin about its utility for preserving resale value since nakikita ko mas mabilis mag depreciate ang EV. So actually balak namin siya gamitin until malaspag siya in 10 years or more. Baka magiging eye candy preservation lang naman talaga ung purpose ng PPF if that’s the case.

Thank you!

LTO driver's license renewal - Saferoads vs LTO website completion course/CDE

Good evening! Have to renew my driver's license before June 26. Previously registered for Saferoads online course, which was (if I recall correctly) linked from the eGov app. Tried taking the course last month but stopped because I got busy. Now that I'm trying to restart the process, I've read in some threads here that it's much easier if you do the CDE via the LTO portal?

Pero nabayaran ko na po ung sa Saferoads. Haha. Same lang rin ba un kung un ang tinapos ko, o mas madali pa rin kung ung online course through LTO?

Sa ibang website po, may kasama rin na drug testing sa requirements, pero sa iba, medical lang. Ano pong experience niyo?

Thank you po!

Thoughts on PPF, Ceramic and Graphene Coating

Recently purchased a BYD Atto 3 Premium. Was wondering which coating option would be best to

  1. protect the car paint from minor scratches
  2. Heat dissipation

Read online that others combine PPF and ceramic coating, PPF first. Others just recommend the ceramic ones

Not sure since I’ve read differing opinions about this. Also any comments on where to place the coating - do we have the entire car coated? And how will it change the look/appearance of the car? Our Atto 3 is Boulder Grey in color.

For context, I ply STAR Tollway around 3-4 x per week for work and the mostly city driving in Batangas - Lipa, occasionally Cavite/Tagaytay (every 2 weeks)Haven’t encountered extremely bumpy or rocky areas at the expressway, been doing this for 5 months already with our older car (Toyota Vios).

Thank you!

Edited: STAR Tollway, not SLEX

Hello! Kindly inquiring from experienced EV and car owners in general. Title as above. Things like floor matting, visor, dashcam, roof box, etc.

First EV car of my wife and I, we just want to make sure we get everything right as we want to take care of this car properly and keep it long term. Thank you!

We’re going to get our BYD soon. I look forward to getting the car, but did not enjoy the process. Dealer kept us figuring things out on our own. Proactive in reminding but not guiding. So many last minute things that weren’t ironed out. I was so frustrated that I aired it out, and he kept saying sorry but felt that he was not really that apologetic. Parang nanghyhype lang lagi.

Now I’m thinking of raising this to the manager tomorrow - to the point that it was such a harrowing experience to have gone mad that I felt like if our agent was the one who handed us our car, the experience would be less than enjoyable because I would be reminded of the hassle he put us through.

Anybody with similar experiences or went that route? Any advice? Nothing personal against the agent, just did not like the quality of the service.

Hi! Kindly asking from experienced owners what do we typically check when receiving our new car? Our dealer has not been the best, and we’re not expecting that we’ll be guided properly tomorrow.

I asked AI and this is what it mentioned:

Battery & Charging
• Check the state of charge — should ideally be delivered at 50-80%
• Test both the portable charger and charging port (Type 2 and DC)
• Confirm the V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function works
• Ask for the battery health report if available
🚗 Exterior
• Inspect all body panels for dents, scratches, paint chips under good lighting
• Check panel gaps are even all around
• Test all lights — headlights (adaptive on Premium), DRLs, taillights, hazards, turn signals
• Inspect windshield and windows for chips or cracks
• Check all 4 tires for correct pressure and no damage
• Confirm roof rails are present (Premium variant)
🪟 Interior
• Test the 12.8” rotating touchscreen — no dead spots
• Check all seat adjustments including the 6-way electric driver seat
• Test panoramic sunroof (Premium)
• Check ambient lighting colors cycle correctly
• Inspect upholstery for any tears or stains
🛡️ Safety & ADAS
• Confirm ADAS features are activated: adaptive cruise, AEB, lane keep, blind spot
• Test the 360-degree camera — all 4 angles clear
• Verify all airbag warning lights are off after startup
📱 Software & Connectivity
• Connect your phone via Apple CarPlay / Android Auto
• Test OTA update capability — confirm the unit is on the latest firmware
• Set up your BYD app / DiLink account
• Test voice assistant
📄 Documents to Receive
• OR/CR
• Warranty booklet (confirm 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty is registered)
• 2 sets of keys
• Portable charger
• User manual

Pro tip: Do the exterior inspection outside the showroom in natural daylight — fluorescent lighting hides a lot of paint defects. Don’t rush — dealers expect PDI to take 1-2 hours. Enjoy your new EV! 🚗⚡

Getting an Atto 3 Premium. Anything else that we need to be meticulous about?

Thank you!
