LBI - 30 Day Performance Improvement Plan

At my POD, several individuals within an LBI compliance practice territory received thirty day performance improvement plan memos today with apparently more on the way. The memo looked pretty legit since it was signed off by Labor Relations. The memo listed several critical job elements and instances that they apparently failed with specific examples. There was also language in the memo that suggests that they must upkeep a certain performance level for a year or face adverse actions to their grade level or employment.

Supposedly this came out of the blue for the affected agents and they weren't notified that their performance wasn't up to par before this incident. I'm in TEGE, and maybe LBI is different but how can anyone reasonably demonstrate improved performance on a case within thirty days? Is this happening anywhere else in LBI, TEGE or SBSE?

Kittens In Storm Drain - Rosemead

Passed by a couple of kittens stuck in a storm drain at the intersection of Klingerman St and Walnut Grove Ave in Rosemead. The drain is on Klingerman St by SoCal Edison. Animal services are out for the weekend and the sheriff station unfortunately do not have the resources to assist.

Posting here for visibility.

My biggest enemy right now is ECM. How is your area handling it?

It's no surprise that ECM is the digital equivalent of a shopping cart with four bad wheels, but how is everyone else's area handling it?

Are variances fully solvable? Are cases actually closable? How much extra time per case is everyone spending because of ECM?

I'd especially love to hear from anyone who's managed to successfully close a case, or from the lucky specialists handling the front-line fallout.

Working Extra Hours in Silence… and Feeling Burned Out

Revenue agent here. I’m usually one of the first people in and among the last to leave my office, and it’s starting to burn me out. I’ve lost weight, stopped enjoying my hobbies, and weekdays and weekends have started to blur together.

My reviews are decent for someone only two years in, but every time I close a case, another one immediately replaces it. Does this job ever get easier?

For those who’ve been doing this longer: do you actually clock out and leave work at work? How do you get over the anxiety that you haven’t done enough during your 40 hours?

How often does your FLM check in?

My team went from a monthly progress check to a biweekly progress check.

Has your FLM been oddly more involved with your day to day work in the past couple of months?

I don't mind the extra attention but there may not be any new updates within 10 business days.

Is anyone else seeing this in their PODs? It’s only April, but attrition and leave requests in my office are already higher than they’ve ever been, aside from what happened in 2025. I’m not referring to probies or those nearing retirement, but mid-career agents—many of whom are taking extended leave, working at slower-than-usual paces, or even resigning to take career sabbaticals.

In addition to the loss of institutional knowledge, this is leading to case overages and assignments above grade level. It’s also becoming visible externally, with taxpayers and tax professionals beginning to test boundaries and see what they can get away with.

My POD lost a dozen people from various divisions in just the past 30 days, and each one looked completely defeated on their last day. Is this happening in other PODs as well?
