“Buy once , cry once” Is it true in long term?

I am a flight simmer for a long time and wanna get into simracing. Although I can afford intermediate to high end gear, I am hesitate to go for sth like high Nm wheel or hydraulic brakes.

Lots of people in sim community always suggest if you are sure of your interest in this hobby, just go for the high end expensive gear, buy once, cry once. I agree I should go for better gear at first so I don’t have to upgrade, but I don’t thank the statement is true, for the “buy once” part.

In flight sim community, thrustmaster warthog used to be best long time ago, then dual cams design came and become the main stream. I own a set of Virpil Hotas and they are great. Now, the era of FFB is coming and several brand are developing FFB base including Virpil.

My point is with advance in technology and design, the high end stuff today may not keep up as well as expected so at some point I need to upgrade it anyway. So I am looking into simagic alpha evo 12 Nm and P1000 pedal, with the expectation of replacing them eventually. Of course, my experience in flight sim may not apply to sim racing gear. Please let me know what you guys and girls think.

For proficiently I mean you don’t have to check the manual before or during flights, only checklists, while being combat effective at the same time. For me, I am flying F-18, F-14, Hind but I guess if I start flying more different module, it would likely take away my capacity of flying previous module.

Now with family I could not fly a lot so it’s hard to maintain recency on the modules I own. I own a lot more than I can fly haha. I love to learn apache someday after I decide which module to ignore for a while.
