Gen 2 40kw range?

I am looking around for my first EV to replace a 2014 ICE Honda Jazz in maybe 6-12 months. Only car for me, my wife and 1 tall teenager. It will mostly be used for my commute (11 miles) and other short trips, but with some trips 75 miles away to visit relatives. I don't have a charger but would get one fitted before buying.

40kw Gen leafs are available near me in the UK, Nissan dealer approved used with 15k miles on for like £10k, with loads of extras. My father in law has one and he seems to like it. It seems like there should be a catch...I know about the range and the slowdown of rapid charging in high temps etc, but for my use case, I think it could work as I make like 1-2 trips more than 75 miles away a year, if that. I imagine rapid charging would be very occasional.

My question is - is 150 miles a realistic range for the 40kw?. I am guessing it is unlikely to get that in winter, even in eco mode. If I have to spring for the 62kw to get that range, then I may as well just cough up for an ID3 or similar and get CCS, better thermal management etc.

Views on the wisdom of choosing a leaf for my use case and the 40kw range welcome.

Used e-Golfs in the UK

Hi

I am looking for a used EV around the £10k mark. I was considering the ID3 but around that price only higher mileage cars were available. This would be our only car, me and my wife plus 1 tall teenager. We rarely make trips over 10 miles away but do occasionally visit relatives, around a 150 mile round trip. I would be getting a home charger installed. The eGolf sounds like a possible option. It would be our first EV currently driving an old Honda Jazz ICE.

Some questions if that's OK

- How are you finding the reliability of the eGolf?

- How is the back seat for a six foot tall passenger?

- What is your experience of the real range for a trip which is 90% motorway?

Is the reliability of the MG4 that bad?

I am in the market for a used EV £10-£12k cash purchase. Much more interested in reliability than badge/performance. My commute is 22 miles round trip and outside that I mostly do short trips, shops, my kids activities etc. We do have relatives 116 miles round trip and 150 miles round trip away, and do occasional long trips. I will be getting a wallbox installed, first electric car. One teenager family, no more kids incoming.

My head says Nissan Leaf as the ChaDemo issue will only come up infrequently and the range will be fine 95% of the time. There are some decent used deals at my local Nissan. Reliable if a bit dated, but given that I currently drive a decidedly worn 2014 Honda Jazz sitting in a Leaf still feels like a spaceship to me. I have a Nissan dealer like 2 miles from my house so servicing etc would be very convenient. My father in law has one and is very happy, but he never goes anywhere far.

My heart however says "You are 50 and you have a few quid now (not loaded, but doing OK). Treat yourself to something a little fun" . I like the sound of the MG4 and I think I'd enjoy it if it isn't glitching etc when I'm trying to get to work. Im not really a car guy, always had Fiestas, Corsas and Jazzes, but feel.like I deserve something just a touch exciting. The alleged reliability issues put me off though. I dont much enjoy buggering around with cars and going to garages etc. Are they really so bad?

Best bet for 10k ish used small to medium car

I currently have a 12 year old petrol Honda Jazz with 90k on it that is probably going to start getting unreliable. I am considering the jump to electric. I would need to get a charging point so am assuming a grand-ish for that (70s house, wiring probably old but consumer unit modern).

Budget around 10k. Any thoughts? Looking for small-ish car for a one kid family with no "expansion plans". Dont care about performance or looks/brand, mainly reliability and availability of charging infrastructure. Commute 22 mile round trip, mostly short trips to shops and relatives about 70 miles away.

My father in law has a Nissan Leaf which he likes, but I am put off my the ChaDemo issue, even though we don't do many big trips away.

Any thoughts on alternatives at that budget?
