How to handle finding unclaimed fund 20+ years after estate closed.
My mom died in 1998 and her estate was closed via probate that year in Nassau County NY. I am her only heir and I was the executor of her estate. Recently I discovered and obtained unclaimed funds of ~$5k from the NY Comptroller. Check is made out to the Estate. What do I do now? Do I have to reopen the estate? Can I just open an estate account at my local bank and deposit the $? Thanks in advance.
