The best roleplay intros are the ones that don't tell me who I am

The chats I keep coming back to are usually the ones where the intro gives me a situation, not a whole identity. If it starts with “you’re my childhood rival who just moved back to town,” I’m already locked into someone else’s story. Give me a tense situation and let me figure out who my character is, and I can take it in a bunch of different directions. I’ve done stuff like cautious ally, undercover detective, total stranger, all with the same character on Emochi. That kind of freedom makes a huge difference for longer stories.

Cold characters actually staying cold is such a nice change

One thing that always kills RP for me is when a character is supposed to be cold or ruthless, then suddenly turns into your best friend after like four messages. Had the opposite experience with a political rivalry story I’ve been playing for a few days. The character is still distant, still kinda ruthless, and my character actually has to work for every bit of trust. That’s probably what I’ve liked most about Emochi so far. It doesn’t feel like the character is just trying to make me happy all the time. When they finally soften up, it actually means something.

The best card trick I’ve found? Write examples, not essays

I used to stuff cards with huge backstories and personality lists, then wonder why the character still sounded generic after a few turns. What helped way more was adding a few actual example exchanges. I tried this with a card on Emochi, and 3–4 good dialogue examples did more for the character's voice than another giant block of traits ever did.

If you want a character to be sarcastic, guarded, blunt, whatever, just show it in the dialogue. The way they answer, dodge questions, joke around, etc. gives the model something much more useful to copy. Honestly, shorter cards have been working better for me lately. What little trick has made the biggest difference for your cards?

Anyone else here because your old RP site kept getting blocked?

My dorm Wi-Fi used to block so many RP sites that I eventually stopped trying. Every semester it was the same thing... something would randomly stop loading. Ended up trying a few different apps after that, and I've mostly been using Emochi lately since it just works without me having to think about it. Made late-night RP sessions way less annoying. Kinda curious if anyone else ended up here for the same reason, or was it something else that made you switch?

Coming from older RP apps, this was the biggest surprise

I’ve bounced between a bunch of RP apps over the years, including CharacterAI and Chai, so I thought I knew what to expect. The thing that surprised me most was how much easier it is to keep a story going when the bot actually remembers what happened and doesn’t randomly forget its own character halfway through. I ended up trying Emochi a few months ago and the difference was pretty noticeable. The card setup takes a little getting used to, but once you figure it out, slow-burn plots and longer storylines are way easier to stick with. Honestly, I’m pretty happy with where things are now.

Bro, stop writing my character for me

"You feel a tear roll down your cheek and slowly nod."Bro?? I never said I was crying. I was in the middle of a pretty intense argument on emochi and the bot suddenly got way too invested in my character's side of the scene. I actually love when the replies get this dramatic, but sometimes I have to remind it that my character is still mine lol.

Weird characters are way more fun than I expected

I got bored of making the usual brooding rivals and mysterious strangers, so I tried something completely stupid instead. Made a card for a broken microwave that thinks it’s an alien communication device. It gets pissed when I put metal in it and keeps giving me terrible life advice while I’m trying to heat up coffee lol. I was messing around with it on emochi last night and somehow had more fun than I’ve had with half my serious RP threads. No romance, no tragic backstory, just a weird little appliance being an asshole. Honestly, I might start making more characters that make absolutely no sense.
