Handtraps - TCG vs Masterduel/OCG

Hello! I hope you are all doing well. I plan on hopefully getting my social anxieties in order to go to a TCG locals. I heard there was a difference between how handtraps worked in the TCG vs Masterduel/OCG. Could anyone explain like I'm five what the differences are? I don't want to bother my opponents too much by screwing up the game.

Colony skins not working correctly

I've had multiple colonists that have names of characters, and even intros that I assume should have a custom skin, but they rarely if ever show. Am I missing something? Playing ATM10 current version.

Edit: I received my answer. People simply change the skins tied to that account over time, leading to characters with names that don't match their skins. Thank you all for the assistance.
