Getting so discouraged 🫤

This is my first tank. The plants are going on 3 months old but the tank itself has been cycled for a year (I was late to the party). The only thing doing well is my betta, and I love him for it, I really do.

I've tried amano shrimp (2 separate batches of 4-5 and I only saw 1 in there recently) for the bio-film and algae but they don't seem to be helping much at all- it's taking over the tank.

I have a hygger 978-18w light on the 24/7 setting but on at 7 am and off at 9 pm. I do not overfeed - I only have the 1 betta so I feed him exact amounts daily.

All advice is welcome.

planted betta tank needs a slime puppy

Spoiler alert- I'm a newb. I had a lot of biofilm in my tank so I tried 4 amano shrimp. When I did a water change this weekend, I only found one left, so I got 4 more since they're better in a bunch. One has already died (and it wasn't a shell, I checked). Decided then maybe I'm not a shrimp person because they're pretty boring and I never see them eat or explore.

I've been doing research and I can't make up my mind on which snail to purchase.

10 gallon planted tank, all parameters are WNL. I have 1 betta, no other fish. Slow growing, first timer, easy plants.

Main goals for slime pup:
- eat biofilm and melting plant matter
- be more entertaining than shrimp
- don't become 500 snails
- leave good plants alone

I don't have much algae and there's never any leftover food because I count out pellets to prevent over/underfeeding.

Thanks for the help 😊

I tried adding the indian almond leaves and the tea bag directly to the filter and neither one was giving the color I wanted.

Did the ol' boil the tea bags and finally got it!

The plants are - surviving- they're still in the first month 😭

Abraxos (the betta) is THRIVING (he's turning in this photo I promise he has all his fins)
