...... with Calibre. I buy a book from Amazon every now and then, just to see what format gets sent to my Voyage. No problem drag and drop kfx file October 1 of '26, . It was also an ebook that the publisher requests no DRM, so I decided to test that feature as well. The download button for an epub worked. However, Amazon sent me a zip file. My MAC wouldn't open it, "unsupported format," and neither would Calibre or Applebooks. I used the terminal prompt to unzip it, and it displayed jpg and css files. So I changed the file name from .zip to .epub, and then Calibre would open it, but Apple Books still did not recognize it. The last time I bought an ebook from Amazon that was not supposed to have DRM, Amazon would only give me a link to a pdf webpage that would not allow downloads. So once again, Amazon doesn't just send me a usable epub, like they used to. Just another oversight, I am sure. LOL

Once a month I take my un-jailbroken Kindle Voyage out of airplane mode, connect it to wifi, and then I buy one kindle ebook and download it. After that it goes back into airplane mode, and I check the kind of ebook format the book has.

And this month....... the book was delivered in kfx format and was added to Calibre (using the appropriate plug ins) with a simple drag and drop. This book was not one that the publisher requested no DRM, so I was not able to test if Amazon was allowing an appropriate download option. So, as of today, the Kindle Voyage is still a viable and easy way to get a Kindle book into Calibre with only the old plug ins for kfx files. I will try again next month, even though I now otherwise buy my ebooks from other sellers besides Amazon.

I get my new Mac mini in a few weeks, so I will finally be able to upgrade Calibre to the latest edition. I think I am stuck on 6.29 with my current computer. So, any advice on how to get Calibre up and running on the new Mac and my library transferred over? This is my first time doing a Mac to Mac upgrade, and also my first time to transfer my Calibre library.

What is the best way to backup my calibre library before I start messing with it? I will have the old computer running in my workshop after I get the new one working in my office. I tediously removed all Amazon ID's from the metadata in my current library, and got Calibre error messages trying to overwrite my backup files with the Amazon id removed. I suppose just creating a new empty folder, selecting all my books, and choosing backup to disc is the easiest way to have a backup with only the id's I want in the metadata?

Found the little 3 foot shelf at Best Buy with the demo Kobo Clara color and the demo Kobo Libra color. It was good to be able to handle them. I liked the Kobo Libra, but I had to turn up the brightness to over 90% to make the background appear white enough for me to like reading on it. So I will continue on with my existing Amazon hardware, until a Kobo Libra black and white returns to the line up. I liked the Kobo design better than my Oasis. Enough that I wouldn't wait for my Oasis to die before getting a Kobo Libra black and white.

The display was right next to the Kindles, the kindles had more models to display and a slightly larger area.

I am so tired with how AI slop has infected the internet. AI claims KFX is way better than MOBI, even better than AZW3. If it is just for reading text, since kindles suck at images no matter what, what could KFX have to offer? I swear I have never read anything on my kindle and thought “wow this must be a KFX file.

I was able to jailbreak my Kindle Voyage, which is my last Kindle that downloads Amazon ebooks without the strengthened DRM. If Amazon has slipped in changes to older Kindles that allow strengthened DRM without a firmware update, does jailbreaking prevent that from happening on a Kindle Voyage? So far I haven't really liked KOReader, so preserving my Voyage's ability to download Kindle books that Calibre can remove the DRM is the only benefit I can think of that would make jailbreaking worth while.

Kindle DRM free downloads usually come as EPUB files when the publisher requests Amazon to provide them. All my previous purchases of DRM free kindle books send me an ePub file when I clicked on the download option. However, today I bought an ebook that allows DRM free download, and when I click the option I don't get an epub file, all I get is a webpage that opens and allows me to read the book on the window I have open at the time. WTF? Amazon glitch? Or is this the new way for Amazon to provide you with a DRM free reading option without actually giving you a drm free file?

Last week my Kindle Paperwhite 10 updated. I had been using it to move ebook.kfx files into Calibre. I just bought an ebook this morning, and the very old book downloaded as a kfx.zip file. My PW10 updated to software version 5.18.1.1.1 (4769680023) Well, that's the last Kindle Ebook if the publisher does not allow DRM free downloading. Unless..... maybe my Kindle Voyage still doesn't get kfx.zip?

When I purchase an Ebook from Amazon that the publisher has requested no DRM, I have two options for getting the ebook into Calibre. I can download the Epub file directly from Amazon, put it into Calibre, then have Calibre convert it to mobi. Or I can just connect my Kindle Paperwhite 10 to my desktop, move the .kfx file over to calibre, and use calibre to make the epub and mobi versions. My question is, do both methods create the same epub and mobi ebook? Or is one method better than the other?

Viewing threads and pictures on R/Zippo on an iPhone is easy. Open a thread to look at the Zippo pictures, maybe post, then back out and I am right where I jumped in. But if I use Safari, on a desktop or iPad( I had lots of app login issues on my iPad for a while) I get put back to the top of the list when I back out of a thread. And then there is usually a scroll lag trying to get back to where I was. Posted in r/Zippo because this is mainly where I experience this. Is there a trick for r/zippo on a desktop to solve this?

Didn’t see one after 6 innings. WTF?

I bought 4 Slim Zippos, between 30 and 50 years old, in a single auction on Ebay. They had the most bizarre insert contents: weird wicks, goofy colored cotton, cotton that came out in one piece, not to mention cotton crusted with decomposed wick dust, and flint tubes totally jammed from corroded flints. I replaced the cotton in all of them, cleared the flint tubes, and put in new flints. I decided to replace all the wicks, and I had a few dozen Zorro wicks that were given to me as samples. I didn't really plan on using the Slims much, so I figured I would put the Zorro wicks in them. They were a tight fit and hard to pull through. A few days ago I decided to carry one, to see if I liked them enough to buy some engraved and decorated Slims. The slim worked terrible, small (half inch) and sputtering flame . I played with the fuel amount, packing, and the wick, but no help. I was going to give up, then decided to replace the Zorro wick with an OEM zippo wick. The OEM zippo wick was narrower, slid right in, and once I got past vapor lock from over filling (is there any other type of filling? LOL), it works great - 1.5 inch and constant flame!

Anyone else have the thicker Zorro wicks cause trouble in a Slim?

Anyone know of storage or display cases specifically sized to fit Slims? The used slim zippos I consider buying never seem to have a box, so I could use something to put them in, something that would also fit in a drawer
