Getting Hooked – The GM’s Guide to the Enemy Within – Part 2.1

My GM's guide to the Enemy Within moves onto Death on the Reik, where our main focus is how to hook your players into the plot.

Did you have any issues with getting your players started in this part of the campaign? How did you resolve them?

Everything’s On Fire – The GM’s Guide to the Enemy Within – Part 7

The final chapter of the Enemy in Shadows is an exciting conclusion to the adventure but I have some thoughts on how to improve it by upping the personal stakes and adding some rewards. Take a look and let me know what you think of my ideas (I'll start on Death on the Reik soon, but will be taking a short break).

Investigation – The GM’s Guide to the Enemy Within – Part 6

Part 6 of my GM's Guide to the Enemy Within is online now, and I discuss how to get your players to engage with the central mystery of Bogenhafen.

Have you had the same issue? How did you get your players to invest in the mystery? or did they leave town with the consequences that that entails? Share your war stories below!

Fun of the Fair – The GM’s Guide to the Enemy Within – Part 5

Celebrating one year of my blog with the 5th part of the GM's Guide to the Enemy Within. This week we're looking at Bogenhafen, with some tips on NPCs as well as some ways to make sure the players actually find the adventure.

Which NPCs stood out in your playthroughs of this adventure?

The GM’s Guide to the Enemy Within – Part 3 – Mistaken Identity

Part 3 of my GM's Guide to the Enemy Within is now online, with advice on the first two chapters of Vol 1. I make a suggestion for reordering the events, links to the battle map you might need for the first major encounter, and include suggestions of miniatures you might want to pick up for the game.

Do you think I'm right that the first two chapters should be switched around?

The GM’s Guide to the Enemy Within – Part 2 – Overview of the Campaign

Part 2 of my GM's Guide to the Enemy Within is up now, with an overview of the campaign and some overarching plots to consider when you're starting up.

The main piece of advice I'd give is to buy and read the beginning of Vol 5 first.

What would be your biggest tip to a GM starting TEW?

The GM’s Guide to the Enemy Within – Part 1

Having had great response to my WFRP reviews so far, I've decided to begin a new long series on the Enemy Within, with the goal of giving GMs the tools they need to run each adventure. As a GM who has run the campaign three times, I think I have a lot of experience to share, and I aim to break each book down to give as thorough guidance as possible. Part 1 is about expectations for the campaign, and creating your PCs, as well as a summary of each of my groups to play through the campaign. Part 2 will be about an overview of the plot and each adventure module.

Have you run TEW? What tips would you offer for starting GMs?

I've built up my army of High Nippon (Japanese fantasy themed using the rules for High Elves) to 3000 points!

While I could certainly add more core units to the army, I'm not really inspired by that at the moment (Spearmen don't seem very good), so the next steps will hopefully be a Phoenix and a Dragon.

You can see more about the progress of the army and where I sourced my miniatures on my blog https://carelessconjuration.wordpress.com/2026/04/30/army-of-high-nippon-crossing-3k/
