I'd like to upgrade my Pixel 8a but it's too expensive. I'd appreciate a code if you're not going to use it.
Hi everyone,
I’m writing this post to share my incredibly frustrating journey with the Pixel 8a and Google Spain's customer support. At this point, I am convinced that this model suffers from persistent, inherent hardware and optimization flaws rather than just "isolated bad units."
Here is the breakdown of what I’m currently experiencing on a daily basis:
Abysmal Battery Life: I barely get 4 hours of Screen-on-Time (SoT). The battery drain is ridiculous. My original unit had this issue, and the refurbished replacement I received is just as bad, if not worse. It performs like a phone with over 400 charge cycles straight out of the box.
Infuriating Wi-Fi / Mobile Data Bug: For the past six months, every single time I leave the house and the Wi-Fi is completely out of range, the phone stays "falsely connected" to the network. It refuses to switch automatically to mobile data. I have to manually go into the settings, turn off Wi-Fi, and only then do my mobile data networks start working. It's ridiculous to have to do this just to get internet on the street.
System Lag & Keyboard Unresponsiveness: The phone constantly stutters and lags during basic tasks. The keyboard frequently freezes or delays input, making typing a miserable experience. This shouldn’t be happening on a Google-optimized device.
Biometric Failure: The under-display fingerprint sensor fails about 80% of the times I try to unlock the device. I’ve tried re-registering fingerprints, increasing touch sensitivity, and factory resetting the phone—nothing fixes it.
The Support Loop vs. EU Regulations:
The worst part is Google’s response. I’ve already been through a repair process (where they replaced the battery on my original phone, which fixed absolutely nothing) and a subsequent replacement for a refurbished unit. Now that I’m reporting that the refurbished device is still completely defective, Google refuses to offer an upgrade to a higher model (like the 8 Pro or 9) and their only "solution" is to send me yet another refurbished Pixel 8a.
I am completely refusing to accept another refurbished lottery ticket. As European and Spanish consumers under the current 2026 consumer protection laws, our statutory rights stand strictly above Google’s internal corporate policies. Their own commercial warranty explicitly states that their terms do not diminish our statutory rights. Under local law, when a repair and a replacement have already failed to bring the product into conformity, forcing a user into an infinite loop of defective refurbished units is considered an ineffective and abusive practice.
I’m trapped because the phone was originally bought through a carrier (Orange), so Google won't issue a direct refund, but they are completely failing as the manufacturer to provide a functional product.
Has anyone else managed to break out of this endless refurbished loop with Google Support? How did you get them to finally escalate the case to an upgrade or a proper resolution?
Thanks for reading.
