Seven teens charged with murder of Oliver Conroy after dating app set-up

A 27yo man was allegedly beaten, robbed and dragged to his death by teens, in what cops allege was a calculated “catch a predator”-style trap.

Two teenage girls have been charged with murder in Queensland following the fatal seven-person attack on Brisbane man Oliver Conroy after he was allegedly lured to his death by a fake date.
Police allege that 27-year-old Oliver Conroy was tricked by a fake dating profile set up by a group of seven teenagers.
He drove to Kelvin Grove at about 10.30pm on July 24, expecting to meet with a date when the teenagers attacked him and stole his car.

Oliver was left lying in the middle of the street with serious injuries before he was found by neighbours and taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
He died two weeks later.
Seven teens, including five boys aged between 15 and 17 and two girls aged 14 and 15 were charged with assault and car theft but the charges were later upgraded to murder.

The 14-year-old and 15-year-old girls are the first female juveniles in Queensland to be charged with murder under the state’s “adult crime, adult time” laws.
All seven of the teens remained in custody before appearing before the Brisbane Magistrate Court on Friday.
The matter was adjourned until September 1, with DNA applications to be heard on Monday.

Police are continuing their search for information and witnesses, calling out for two potential witnesses the night of the alleged attack.
This includes a dark-coloured SUV that drove along Victoria Park Road, Blamey Street and Musk Ave at about 10.15pm and a blue sedan on Carroway Street at about 10.16pm.

FYI, SQ have closed a loophole for free flight changes.

Picture above is two pictures put together as this sub doesn’t allow you to add more than one picture and I need to make a point of comparison.

Whenever you received these “Flight Update” emails advising you of a change of timings, even for something trivial like a difference of 5 minutes or so, you would have a choice of either being able to agree to it or request a complimentary change of flights (within 7 days) no questions asked.

In my instance of my 2024 Seoul trip above, I managed to use that email to get a change of flight to an afternoon flight the next day. And this was Economy Lite too, which normally does not permit any changes whatsoever, so I found that pretty cool.

However in 2026, see how they now say “if you would like to opt for other flights… please note fees and charges may apply”. I hit up live chat to enquire and sure enough they confirmed for these emails they now only offer free flight changes IF the change of timing adversely impacts your connection time, otherwise usual penalty fees and fare difference will apply if you want to change.

Yes I know the original situation was always overly generous but good to flag with everyone sadly no more unrestricted free flight changes when you get these emails

Anthony Albanese defends controversial ‘melon’ remarks and shifts blame to comedian

Podcast host Nikki Osborne has contradicted Anthony Albanese’s account of his infamous interview, claiming the Prime Minister ‘knew’ exactly what he was getting into.

Anthony Albanese personally agreed to an interview where he ended up making comments about his sex life, a foreign leader’s “melons” and “shagging” Kylie Minogue, with the podcast host claiming the Prime Minister “knew” what he was getting himself into.
The comedian responsible for the now-infamous Bush Deep podcast, Nikki Osborne, revealed Mr Albanese replied “straight away” when she privately messaged him on social media requesting an interview, texting back: “Sure, sounds like a lot of fun.”
Mr Albanese on Friday maintained he had nothing to apologise for over references to the Japanese Prime Minister’s “melons” during the podcast, shifting the blame on to Ms Osborne as he faced mounting pressure to take accountability.

He also claimed he did not know he would be asked “shag, marry, date” questions on the podcast – contradicting Ms Osborne, who suggested Mr Albanese or his staffers asked her to remove One Nation leader Pauline Hanson from the original question.
“I’ve asked everyone on my show. Except they took Pauline Hanson out of the shag question because she was in it for other people,” Ms Osborne said.

“He’s watched the show, he knows my podcast. So he knew what he was coming into.
“At the same time I knew exactly what I was doing, because that’s why I organised the interview and it has kind of thrust my character, which sounds ridiculous ‘Bush Barbie did an interview with the Prime Minister’, but it has created that moment that I was looking for.”
Revealing the pair had shared “top shelf” scotch before the start of the podcast, Ms Osborne said she thought she got the “real” Prime Minister when he said he would “shag” Minogue and joked about the diplomatic gift from Japanese leader Sanae Takaichi.

The comedian suggested Mr Albanese agreed to the interview because his team wanted to “appeal” to her audience and “that would be an extra, you know, 1.5 million votes”.
At his press conference on Friday morning, a defiant Mr Albanese claimed he made gestures toward his chest when discussing Ms Takaichi’s gift of two crown melons because he “does not sit in interviews with his arms crossed”.

He appeared flustered as he faced questions for the first time in Canberra on the podcast appearance, maintaining that the “interpretation” of his hand gestures was incorrect.
Asked if he should have intervened when Ms Osborne compared the Japanese Prime Minister to Pamela Anderson, Mr Albanese said he was only responsible for his own words.
“There’ve been a lot of words written about this,” he said. “There hasn’t been one word attributed to me that people have pointed towards as being inappropriate.

“I’m responsible for my words, and I note that of all of the words that have been written on this, none of my words have been criticised.”
Mr Albanese has been widely criticised by the Coalition, One Nation and the crossbench for saying Ms Takaichi had brought in a “couple of melons … as you do”.
He said he had already apologised “unequivocally” for certain elements of the podcast, including the remarks about his sex life and “shagging” Minogue.

But he would not extend this apology to his comments about the Japanese leader.
Until now, Mr Albanese avoided deflecting blame on to the podcast host as the saga threatens to overshadow one of his most significant leadership milestones.

Mr Albanese on Friday surpassed former Labor leader Paul Keating’s time as prime minister.
At his press conference, Mr Albanese lamented that he was still facing questions about the podcast almost two months since it was released.

Nasi Biryani PEY edition, ex-SIN

Flavourful chicken curry, fried onions and very fluffy biryani rice.

Looks simple but this was easily one of my favourite meals I’ve had in PEY class - I believe the PEY version is actually identical to the JCL version, just different plating and the absence of the side veggies. Comfort food in a dish.

Would 100% order again - 9/10 for me

First time to try A380 - is Redemption Upgrade worth it?

A380 Suites is on my bucket list to do once in my life especially if the A380’s days are numbered. I was also wanting to go to Europe next year.

I know in general everyone talks about how Award Redemptions are the way to go, and fair enough, but what about Redemption Upgrade?

1 way Sydney or Melbourne to Singapore Advantage Award is 178k miles, and forget talking about Saver, doesn’t show up on my end.

But what if I wanted to go further for example to Europe? That’s when it gets messy because not interested in regular First Class and SQ also don’t let you do a mixed cabin award redemption with the cost fairly split with the lower cabin (you have to pay the higher cabin price for the whole route) so forget that.

I was thinking another option is, if you book online you can do a mixed revenue booking of Business outbound, Premium Economy on the return - right now I can get a return ticket from Sydney to Brussels in this config for $8000 AUD. I found out you can then apply for a Redemption Upgrade for Sydney to Singapore leg only to Suites for 105k miles, which is about 40% off a regular redemption.

Is redemption upgrade worth it in this scenario?

I’m thinking I’m leaning more towards just doing a full (Advantage) redemption but then I would need to keep it to a Singapore-only trip rather than trying to fit it into a Europe trip.

A350LH vs B777-300ER discrepancies in comfort

I’ve travelled a fair bit on the above two aircraft and I’ve noticed despite the A350 being the newer and fancier plane, the 777 actually comes out better.

In Business Class, the seats look the same on paper, it’s 2013J but I’ve actually found the footwell on the A350LH is actually even narrower and tighter. It’s not officially listed but there’s definitely a difference. The 777 seat footwell feels noticeably more roomy.

In Premium Economy, there’s a different seat product, it’s subtle but you notice it’s a different model of seat between the two aircraft. The A350 seat just feels tighter, there’s a lot more equipment underneath the seat in front of you restricting your legroom. The 777 one, which is the same as the A380 seat there’s nothing obnoxiously instructing the legroom underneath the seat so you can stretch out more and I could swear it also reclines a bit more than the A350 seat.

Does anyone else agree or notice similar observations? I’m starting to like the 777 more than 359
