SQ from Singapore to Hokkaido (CTS)

Has anyone taken SQ from SIN to HND, and ANA from HND to CTS? If it makes a difference, I booked via SQ (and not separately).

Wondering if I need to (1) clear immigration at Haneda and (2) pick up my luggage at Haneda and check in again with ANA to New Chitose. The layover (both inbound and outbound) is only about 2 hours, and I'm travelling with my elderly parents. So I'm worried that there might not be enough time.

It is their first time flying business, so I'm quite excited for them - except for the layover issue.

Any guidance will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Weight limit

Flying Melbourne to Istanbul with an infant.
We have 25kg each and infant has 10kg. Can I prepare two bags 30kg each, equaling 60kg all together? Or is it 25kg max per bag?
Online states 32kg is max for baggage.

Thanks

Self-transfer. Would 4 hours be enough?

We've been through Changi before, but we either spent a night in Singapore or had a transit booked under the same ticket.

This time, we would arrive in Singapore around 17.10, grab our luggage, and check in again for the 2nd flight. The 2nd flight leaves at 21.35.

Would 4 hours be enough to do a self-transfer?

Thank you!

Is there a way to see available seats before booking a flight?

I need to buy a ticket for an international flight next week. I checked prices on three different airlines including Singapore. Some indicates “only 2 seats available’ , but some do not. I don’t want to end up in a middle seat for 10+ hours. Is there a way to see available seats BEFORE buying the tickets?

Never flew with Singapore Airlines before

What’s it like? I’m flying from Manchester UK, to Singapore then straight to Bangkok.

Plane is an a350-900! I’m aiming to fly different airlines every year and this is a new one for me.

Quality of SQ

Recently had the chance to fly with Emirates, Qatar and some other airlines.
Living in Singapore, i am still happy with Singapore Airlines but despite increasing prices the quality seems to be deteriorating.

  1. airplanes: they seem to be aging badly and they are not upgrading anything. Toilets are old, in flight entertainment is getting old, no bluetooth support, slow screens, dirty pillows etc etc
  2. food: getting worse every time i fly and i fly SQ 2-3 times a month. Don’t get me started on the short haul carton box food.
  3. wifi: inconsistent, slow and painful. After seeing many airlines providing starlink, i am not sure what took SQ so long. It shouldn’t be the money as the fares are crazy expensive and profits are great.

Thankfully the crew and service quality is still top notch. But i feel SQ got a bit too complacent as there is no real competition.

Are lounges available for use upon arrival?

Flying from Canada, landing in Singapore in the morning. My hotel check is in the afternoon, so I’d ideally like to take a shower once I arrive at the airport.

Anyone know if this is possible?

Self check-in kiosk always fails for me on SQ (but not other airlines). Anyone else faced this?

SG citizen here. Every time I fly SQ, out of Changi or elsewhere, the self check-in kiosk rejects me after scanning my passport and tells me to go to the counter instead. This doesn't happen on other airlines - only SQ.

The odd part: when I get to the counter, staff can't find anything wrong. Check-in goes through smoothly, no flags, no explanation.

I've emailed SQ customer service and visited the service counter at ION Orchard. My guess was a mismatch between my passport details and what's in their system, but they've confirmed there's no discrepancy.

It's a minor annoyance but a consistent one. When I travel with my wife or other SG passport holders, I'm always the one who has to queue for a manual check-in while everyone else breezes through the kiosk.

Has anyone experienced this or know what might be causing it? Open to suggestions on how to actually get it fixed. Thank you.

Bumped off extra legroom seats during checkin

UPDATE: They changed my seat again (though no notifciation, had to check "manage booking" manually), to basically the same as the original seat, just on the other side of the craft.

Original post:

I booked (and paid a hundred bucks) for an emergency exit row seat ("extra legroom", 70C) on a long haul (SQ325 FR-SIN), and during check in I noticed my seat was changed to another seat (49C, no extra legroom). Since I am quite tall, not getting the extra legroom will probably make the flight miserable.

I tried to get a human person on the phone without success, and after chatting to two agents they could only tell me that they'd escalate this to the proper team, whatever that means. I don't have high hopes. There was also never any hint of at least refunding the seat reservation fee.

All the extra legroom seats are taken when I try to change my seat, so I guess there's not much that can be done to get me in my originally booked seat.

Any tips on what to do? There are some seats on PE I could upgrade to for 500 bucks, however those are middle seats and I don't know if it would make the flight so much more enjoyable.

I also have the same seat type booked on the return trip a few days later, any idea to avoid this to happen again?

Would it make sense to contact ground crew in FRA and ask for a solution? Not expecting an upgrade to B, of course, but maybe at least a discount on a PE upgrade?

I'm quite annoyed by the whole ordeal., which took me 2 hrs today already to try to resolve on the phone or by chat (in vain), especially since a lot of my colleagues were telling me that SQ would be a much better experience than the usual long haul carriers (Lufthansa , United).

Nasi Biryani PEY edition, ex-SIN

Flavourful chicken curry, fried onions and very fluffy biryani rice.

Looks simple but this was easily one of my favourite meals I’ve had in PEY class - I believe the PEY version is actually identical to the JCL version, just different plating and the absence of the side veggies. Comfort food in a dish.

Would 100% order again - 9/10 for me

Multi-Day Layover in Singapore-- can we retrieve our bags?

My mom and I are traveling to Nepal with a couple days layover in Singapore on our way. My mom's tickets are all booked on one itinerary (SFO -> SIN, 2 day layover in SIN, then SIN -> KTM, then back the other direction at the end of our trip). Mine are separate-- I essentially bought one round trip ticket from SFO -> SIN and one round trip ticket from SIN -> KTM.

Here's my question-- will my mom be able to retrieve her checked luggage in Singapore even though her flight from SIN to KTM is on the same itinerary as her flight from SFO to KTM? Or do we need to put all of her items she needs on our 2 day layover in my checked luggage which I'll have to retrieve in SIN because my SFO to SIN and SIN to KTM itineraries are not connected?

Any advice and information is helpful! We are flying on Singapore Airlines and I found the baggage at transit page on their website which answers this question for other countries, but not if the in-between transit destination is Singapore.

VA/SQ (int/int) on SQ ticket : OTA says baggage recheck in MEL, is that correct?

Hi everyone,

I’m travelling from Queenstown (ZQN) to Singapore (SIN) on a single ticket booked as Singapore Airlines.

Itinerary:
ZQN → MEL
Flight: SQ6385, operated by Virgin Australia
Arrives Melbourne T2 at 19:10
MEL → SIN
Flight: SQ218, operated by Singapore Airlines
Departs Melbourne T2 at 23:35

Both flights are under the same PNR/ticket, with around 4h25m transit in Melbourne.

The OTA/travel agency page says I may need to collect and recheck baggage in Melbourne. However, since this is a single SQ ticket and the first flight is an SQ codeshare operated by Virgin Australia, I was expecting the bags to be tagged through to SIN.

Has anyone done this specific connection or a similar Virgin Australia-operated SQ codeshare → SQ international flight in Melbourne?

SQ cabin crew: What red lipstick do you wear? 💄

Any current or former SQ cabin crew know what red lipstick you wear? I’ve always loved the shade and would love to find something similar!

Student Fare need ID upon check in?

Hi! I manage to get my account verified successfully through the SHEER ID process. I already booked my one-way ticket.

I already paid, and successfully enrolled to my university but I have yet to get my student ID. Since I’m still in SG i cant physically process my ID, will that be an issue?

(ID Application is physically done at school, and I have not yet to relocate there 😭😭)

I do have certificate of enrolment and the receipt of proof of payment for enrolment. I guess that’s my only proof, will this be sufficient?

Has SQ305/SQ306 been changed to an A350 permanently?

Over the past few days Singapore Airlines earliest flight out of LHR has been on an A350 instead of a 777. Is this a permanent change and what was the reason for it?

SQ flights to LHR are now A350, A380 x2, and B777 daily, whereas flights to LGW are A350 x2 daily.

Wonder why they pulled the other 777

TSA PreCheck + Singapore Airlines booking (no middle name field) — will it still work?

Hi everyone,
I have a TSA PreCheck KTN added to my reservation on Singapore Airlines, but I’m seeing a bit of confusion about name matching and wanted to sanity check this. On my passport, I have a middle name included in the “Given Names” field. However, when booking with Singapore Airlines, there is no separate middle name field on the website. It only allows:

First / Given name
Last / Family name

So my booking is showing as First + Last only, while my passport includes a middle name.

My questions:

  1. Will TSA PreCheck still reliably show up on the boarding pass in this case?
  2. Or does the absence of the middle name in the reservation commonly prevent the PreCheck indicator from attaching?

Has anyone flown Singapore Airlines specifically with this setup and still gotten PreCheck without issues?
I’ve read mixed things, but since SQ doesn’t even provide a middle name field during booking, I’m wondering how strict TSA matching is in this scenario.
Thanks in advance.

Macarons from the IFM :D

Coincidentally had the same IFM on 3 separate flights in the last 2 months and once few years ago when he was a CS.

On an ex-CDG flight he saw me shamelessly stuffing myself with macarons so I told him how much I enjoyed it and shared some too. He clearly remembered cause when my name was on his pax list once again he decided to get some and surprise me onboard! Not only an unforgettable act of kindness, but a heart warming gesture of being remembered 😭

Some IFM's truly go above and beyond for their passengers! As always, submitted a feedback to ensure his stellar hospitality is recognised by the big bosses

Manchester to Singapore

In a few months I’m travelling from manchester to Singapore direct. The flight leaves at 10:30am and lands 7am.

What meals can I expect? Lunch then breakfast?

Do they dim the lights at all in the second half of the flight?
