How did you quit your job?

How did you go about quitting your jobs? I took off 6 months, extended to a year, then quit 2.5 months before school started. Was this a shitty thing to do!? I just didn’t realize how hard it would be to return and send my kid to daycare.

I quit my job after extending maternity leave. Did I do something wrong.

For context I had a baby a year ago. I’m a middle school teacher. I was supposed to take six months of maternity leave, but I ended up taking off the entire year. I was supposed to come back in August but we had some financial changes so I decided to stay home and quit.

I quit a month and a half before contracts were due and let my team know but my direct coworker seems very upset with me and won’t respond to any of my messages. Did I do anything wrong? I don’t really care, but I’m afraid this will hurt me in the long run to get references for my next school.

Teaching is depressing

Does anyone else find it depressing that with teaching especially in public you get trapped in the system? You become too expensive to get hired anywhere else that you are stuck in the same school district teaching the same thing 5x a day every semester for 30 years??

Quit my job and regret it

I had a really great job as a teacher only five minutes from my house and a really good school district and I had my baby and started freaking out about daycare and quit my job. The days are so long and slow. Everyone told me that looking back, I won’t regret this time but when you’re actually in it and every day is the same, it can be a lot. I kind of want to ask for my job back, but it’s been two weeks since I quit and I feel like it might be too late.

If money weren’t a concern. Would you still teach?

Fortunately we’re doing well enough that I don’t need to work. I don’t love my job but like the hours, summer break and coworkers. Would you still teach or be at home with your kids?

SAHM regret

I recently quit my job to be at home with my son. (Due to 98% of the people I asked for advice recommending me to do so).

I put my notice in just a few days ago and instantly regretted it. Is it too late to retract my resignation? I already submitted a letter.

SAHMs did you regret quitting? I’m just so scared I’ll never find another job. I’m also realizing this slow life may not be for me. I miss my teaching community.

Struggling to decide whether to work or become a SAHM - teacher

I’m a middle school teacher and had my baby last summer. I took the year off to be with him but have to return to work in August.

I have to decide whether or not I’m going to turn in my teaching contract by July 1st.

I’d love your insight on what I should do since I’m really struggling.

My son is 11 months old. We can barely financially afford for me to stay home… we have a lot of money in savings but with our expenses and my husband’s salary we would just break even for the year.

If I send my kid to daycare I’ll bring home $30k after taxes and the cost of daycare. This isn’t a lot but is a good safety net if my husband were to get laid off.

I don’t really like my job. It’s draining teaching 150 mean middle schoolers all day… but I only work 7-2:30 and get breaks and summer off.

I’ve enjoyed being at home with my son this year but found I’m not present with him all the time and tend to get bored/lazy. I almost need at least a part time
Job or something to make me feel more fulfilled…

What would you do in my situation? Give up your teaching career for 5-7 years to stay home? Or work a job you don’t love but have worked hard for / have great benefits / have more security??

Too late to resign?

I took the year off to stay at home with my baby with the plan of going back. I’m supposed to go back to work in August but contemplating becoming a stay at home mom. Would this be too late to put my notice in? I feel like I already screwed them over by taking the year off unplanned…
