The TIE Striker would have been a great boon to the Empire if it was allowed to reach mass production
The TIE/sk x1 experimental air superiority fighter, or TIE Striker was as the name suggests a starfighter designed for atmospheric combat most notably seen on Scarif. However I believe that it should've been much more widespread and a common sight on every Imperial Planet. Perhaps even to the point of rivaling the amount of standard TIEs in the galaxy.
The reason why I propose this is because the Striker outclasses the standard TIE Fighter in almost every category. Despite being ten thousand credits cheaper the Tie Striker boasts 3 times more firepower than the TIE/ln with 4 regular laser cannon on the wings and nose while also having 2 heavy cannons carried under the fuselage while additionally being to drop proton bombs gives the TIE/sk more versatility in what missions it can accomplish. And despite all that added weight the Striker also posses higher top speed and maneuverability than the already nimble TIE Fighter. At least in atmosphere.
Now of course that is main con of the Striker platform, it being a primarily atmospheric fighter. However it is still capable of flying in space and even if it couldn't, it wouldn't be an issue for the Empire. Looking at the Imperial Fleet and doctrine we know its based around the infamous Star Destroyer. Albeit a powerful vessel it can't cover all the planets in a star system at once and isn't fast enough to respond to emergent threats. As such the Empire is reliant on planet-side outposts, bases, and airfields to protect vital locations; all of which are in atmosphere. And by the time they scramble fighters to counter pirates or rebels they are already in atmosphere as well, the perfect hunting ground for the Striker with its heavy firepower and nimble handling.
While the standard TIE fighter can stay aboard all the space-faring capital ships of the Empire replacing all TIE/lns garrisoned on planets with TIE Strikers would give the Imperials a much more competent defender for a lower price.
